I reckon Stewart will be back late October by the time he's up to fitness. Probably a slow start till Xmas, then all being well he'll start banging the goals in again until the end of the season when he'll leave on a free and we'll all be gutted. Here is a theory, that makes sense to me. Came from my mate who is involved in the agent side. He said he would think Stewart now stays with us for the season at least. No inside info, just his view on what happens in these situations. He reckons buying injured players, those that have been out for so long, is really hard to do for a number of reasons. Therefore he is here until Jan. Then whatever our league position is we wont sell unless for a silly fee because it wont be worth our while, whether we are chasing promotion or not. Too much money and future appeal to players to risk, i.e. finishing 8th is better than 14th for next summer window. He said it would be no surprise if he signs a new deal here, to pay him a sensible amount but with a release clause that is reasonable to a premier league or SPL team. Speculation but makes a lot of logical sense to me, and I can go along eith that as an outcome.
Out of most of them, Gooch would be a real shame to see go. Has been through it all with us over a decade.
Sometimes I forget he is only 27! I do think he performed really decent last year and covered many positions for us. Always gives max effort too, clearly has the club in his heart. I am not sure we have suitable cover in place to be letting him go personally.
Be a tough decision for the lad. His family, Mrs side are Sunderland to the bone. Any move would be a big change.
Personally, I hope they decide to take the gamble and go to the MLS. Live the dream and have the life, be better than a dump like QPR.
Totally agree. Personally I'd be gutted to see him just let go. Thought he had a great season covering a number of positions. Players like him are invaluable to your squad particularly with our injury record. You always need a player like that in your squad. People will say onein can be flexible but seems that Mowbray sees him now as a CB only. Like you say, particularly letting him go to a team like QPR too.Out of most of them, Gooch would be a real shame to see go. Has been through it all with us over a decade.
