This "model" will not work here imho, been thinking this for a while. Is this model a fancy way of KLD saying I'm not putting significant funds in. IMO the only way a club like ours will ever be properly successful is by having somebody come in with massive investment and prepared to throw proper big boys money at it. Before anyone jumps on me, it's like I say, all just my personal opinion.

What,like Ellis did?

Not having a go just curious as to why you think this model won't work here

Another two points last time we were told nothing imminent or there would be a quiet period we announced Seelt out the blue and if you unfollow wise men say on social media your timeline will become 50x less depressing
I have a genuine issue with them, I really do think they've had a massive contribution in shaping the mentality of a sizeable proportion of our fans and it's not pretty. This constant, unwarranted, conspiratorial deep seeded suspicion and distrust of those in a position of authority at SAFC is unhealthy and creates so much negativity.

I understand why it has come about but it's coming to the point that it is problematic (to me at least) and could genuinely be damaging to the club's future.

Nothing that comes from that page is constructive it’s always just a dig at the club, what the falk is by far and away the best podcast we have out there

Oh I've no idea, I didn't want the press conference, just going off the reports from Phil Smith.

I'll give it a watch shortly and see what's said.
Fairly sure it was two separate things that Phil Smith was saying, that the search for a striker goes on then, as a separate, not necessarily related point, we will be using the loan market before the end of the window.

Fact is the only one is injured, and hasn't signed a contract. Have to hope things change, but had several windows without managing to sign one now.
I like a good moan, it's cathartic.

But when someone’s injured ya don’t just start replacing them man! It’s not just Sunderland that are struggling to find strikers there’s every other team in the world so it would seem.

Was the exact response I was expecting. Not talking about Saudi money ffs.
“Throwing big boys money” around will get you fecked financially, what if we were propped up by a billionaire and what would happen if that billionaire grows disillusioned?

isn’t it better to grow a club to be self sustaining so that if KLD did decide to sell up its much more attractive to buyers than a club in debt.

Bang on the money, but some supporters want it now, until it goes tits up like under Short.

Convinced they don’t even support us, give parky a run for his money in the most dour people to be associated with this club
I was going to slate the financial guy on WMS at this point for being ultra-negative. While searching for his name, I found this May ‘23 article about our 21/22 accounts which has some interesting bits in it actually:

https://wisemensay.co.uk/sunderland-afc-2021-22-financial-results-an-analysis/

I’m sure they are lads fans but they express it in a vastly different way to most of us. Seems like they have an idealised view of the club in their heads and take apart anything that falls short of it.

I just don't think we'll have the patience for it overall. The model only works if we're selling our best, most reputable players for big money and using the money to strengthen the overall squad. Which I personally don't have a problem with. Likes of Clarke, Neil etc will inevitably have to be sold. But then you'll get fans fuming about selling our assets, and how are we ever going to progress if we sell all our best players.
We've obviously reached a limit now whereby we can't bring anymore in, permanently, without players going.

I agree it’ll take time and we do have an impatient fan base, once we sell one and improve the squad I think people will begin to relax and ‘trust the process’ this model is still in its very early stages and alien to us, I bet Brentford fans were seething when they sold maupay, we’ve been a mess for years there’s no quick fix for us I don’t think

I agree with the majority of that. I wasn't saying its what should happen, it was just my opinion that to be properly successful, ie, challenging Europe etc, the current model will takes years and years to work, if at all. But if we have downs, like a little bit of what we have now, without proven strikers and a few defeats on the trot it'll be questioned.

That's a very fair point and I hope you're right.
