You've pulled those numbers out of your arse though.

Stewart is 27 next month, it's highly unlikely that there's a 5 year deal on the table. Then it's unheard of to have a 100% pay rise clause upon promotion.
Of cause I've pulled them out the air, I've no idea what money is involved it's just an example of how it's not just a few grand

We don't need another wide player surely. We have Clarke, Roberts, Bennette, Watson, Lihadji. Even Ba, Embleton, Gooch, Pritchard can play wide midfield.
He can’t be included, surely <laugh> I want another wide man with genuine quality. Bennette and Lihadji have proved **** all so far. Sorry for being greedy like.

Ok, so let's say it's 10k a week improvement on his contract next year and £25k a year for the 2 years after that based on promotion. A 3 year deal costs us £3.1m. In this scenario, we're also in the Premier League, so it's not exactly huge.

The counter argument is that Ross Stewart is fit, scores 25 goals and is out of contract at the end of the season. We lost a £15m asset for free. Worse still, maybe we finished 3rd and lost in the playoffs. We don't even have Premier League money to sign a new striker.

The risks of not getting him tied down, far outweigh the benefits.
