Surprise development... Not necessarily a good thing but hopefully with the successes we've had recently the role is now seen as a very attractive proposition and higher calibre candidates will be interested.
With phrases like 'pastures new', 'a new job elsewhere' and 'an exciting new challenge of his own', I'd suggest he was pushed and doesn't currently have a role to go to. Like Boris, he will be hanging about. 'David will continue to oversee the academy until a new appointment is made' . If he had another role, he'd be gone
Exactly my thoughts. I'd heard somewhere that under 23's manager Morison (as he was back then) didn't go a bundle on him when he was brought in to head the academy coaching.
Kipre's career has hardly been inspiring but if Morison/Hudson see something that can be worked on to improve our defence then so be it. This signing will see the end of Morro's career with us once his rehabilitation is complete. Now where's the striker we obviously need? As for Hughes, I thought it odd that he did not have something immediately lined up. It suggests differences of views as to the way forward.
Wondered if there was friction with Morison. Must be more pressure on the U23s now Morison is in the top job.
Clearly he knows how it works and what can be achieved. He is a pretty hard act to follow in that respect so I'd imagine whoever is in post would have to be very thick skinned, sure of themselves and able to stand up to SM if comparisons get made... Not an easy position to be in but one that should still be seen as a great opportunity given some of the potential in the next wave we have coming through. Or am I wearing blue tinted specs??
And very challenging with the number of young players who have graduated to the senior squad. A very tough act to follow.
I'd have thought the rise of the youngsters through the ranks toward first team inclusion was more down to Rowberry than Hughes. Bringing on the academy products takes years of patience, not 18 months.
True Sparks but Hughes has been there when they have bridged the gap although Morison and Rowberry set the ball rolling. Either way, whoever comes in has to hit the ground running to ensure the conveyor belt continues.
Here's one we could have had were it not for loan rule changes. Gone to Birmingham instead. Hence the Kipre move. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport...kCopy&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar
The rule was mentioned as a possible stumbling block up thread. This is the first example of it actually happening. You wouldn't have thought 8 loanees abroad would be topped by many clubs, but aparently so. I think Man City had 20 odd players out on loan last year.
So Kipre has joined on a season loan. So far down the pecking order at West Brom he couldn’t make the bench. Not an inspiring signing but I’ll be delighted to be proven wrong. Wonder if he can play up front.
I’m enthused actually as he’s got to be an improvement on both Nelson and McGuiness whom have issues with control and passing, especially the latter.
If he is only 'OK' and can make some forward passes to the midfield it'll be good. I think that besides the overall change in style, defensively we'll see more work from the midfield taking the pressure off the back 4/5. A team effort in defense, a team effort in attack. Still have my reservations, but today my glass is half full. I've a feeling a new striker will be a loanee and we'll have to wait a few weeks before we get one on board, maybe after the start of the season. Not ideal, but I'm sure we'll get by with what we've got until then. Plenty of bodies for SM to work with.
Just like working in a mortuary then. Probably right on the striker front although limited by the new loan rules mentioned above. I see Uche hasn't got a new club yet.
