He played 15 out of 34 league games. At least you yourself have disproved your nonsense about Drogba starting ahead of him They play completely different positions. Elmander plays more in the Sneijder role for Gala.

and remind me, when did sneijder arrive???? and when did elmander lose his place???? and where has elmander featured at both international level and club level over the years???? yes, that's right - up front and in the hole.

**** sake

Turkish clubs are very different to British ones. They have far more contact with their fans, with Fatih Terim and Ünal Aysal (President of the Sports Club, not just football) in very close touch with the Supporters Club. It is unlike any British team in that sense.

Whats this got to do with it?

Your point being? Two minute sago, you told me he was displaced by Drogba jeez and now you've migrated from Drogba to Sneijder, simply on the basis I proved you wrong. Sneijder and Elmander actually played together many times. Elmander was dropped because he's crap. Baros was sold and now Elmander follows, unfortunately to Norwich.

but he was displaced by drogba! he just happens to have been displaced in two positions rather than one, by two world class footballers. you really are coming across in a very bizarre fashion i have to say. you've only made about 20 posts, all of which are a bit odd

Apologies for that. Just wanted to correct your misinformation. And no he was never displaced by Droga as they never played in the same position.

well they obviously didn't relay it to you then cos i swore at the time the commentators mentioned an arm injury keeping him out and now its been mentioned in an article elsewhere

There was no arm injury which stopped him playing. As I said, it was a thigh and a knee. But anyway, the point was you were trying to ridicule my thoughts on Elmander, when you were wrong on everything - other than your opinion of him, as like me, you're obviously enttled to make up your own mind. But as someone who has seen him regularly when he's actually played, believe me, he will add nothing to Norwich, and yes, he does play in the same role as Hooper and RVW.

but elmander has played up front for galatasary. i know - i've seen him play there. he scored as well. besiktas were the opponents but i'll admit it was some time ago

As I said he played with Baros upfront as a two - he started behind Baros but as Baros couldn't score, Elmander was moved up alongside. He has never played as a lone striker for Gala, nor indeed furthest forward when played with Baros, as he has a natural tendency to drop a bit deeper, exactly in the same way as Hooper and RVW.

it was definitely a champions league match. schalke? not 100% sure. only reason i remember the commentary was cos i'd forgotten about elmander and they brought his name up in passing

Therefore February or March. February they drew 1-1, Elmander didn't play as he had a knee injury! March in Germany Gala won 3-2. Elmander didn't play, not even picked as a sub.
Anyway, nothing personal. Hope we can engage in some more discussions.

England (being English, born in Norwich), Scotland (living in Edinburgh), and Turkish (as I work there a lot and have done for 13 years) are the leagues I follow very closely. I wouldn't dare challenge you guys on Italian or Swedish football or something...!

No he had two injuries - October and February. Firstly. to his thigh and then to his knee. He missed 8 weeks through his knee and thigh injuries.

He never missed any games do to an arm problem. Furthermore, He fell out with Fatih Terim as he had been dropped.

I fear things are getting lost in translation. Here's a tweet, translated from turkish, about it: "Johan Elmander's right thigh near the rear biceps muscle, severe tears were found near total"

There's a muscle in the back of the thigh called the biceps femoris. I think that's what was injured, but someone in Supers commentary team haven't done their homework correctly (and neither have transfermarkt), and they've just picked the word bicep out of the translation. Never mind.

On the topic of appearances, he played 25 times last season: 16 league games, 6 Champion's League and 3 cup games. What I'd be concerned about with his signing is the fact that he only played 90 mins in a single league match last season. Now I don't know much about the Turkish league, but I imagine the quality to be lower than the Premier League, and I expect it's slower. If he can't play a full match out there, I'd be very concerned if we became reliant on him to play any kind of significant role this season.

<ok> only going by what i heard mate. dh has posted something above which may explain the crossed wires! let's move on...

Your argument is making less and less sense Manky. You say he would be coming in to play the same position as RVW and Hooper, which is more than likely the role of Lone Striker, but then when Super says he was ousted from this position at Galatasary by Drogba, you rubbish this claim and say that he plays in the hole, where Super also said they bought Sneijder to play, whom again is a world class player and bound to take Elmander's position. Either way whatever position he plays - lone striker or in the hole, you would be very pushed to find a player that could play ahead of Drogba and Sneijder.

Now im not saying that Elmander is setting my heart a light witht he prospect of him signing, however i do think he could be an intelligent signing. He is an experienced international, who has played in this league before, thus providing the 'old head' which we have all thought we needed and was brought up when we were linked with Quagliarella. I personally think he will be used as a third choice striker or he could play in Hoolahan's role. So he would be taking the role that we thought Toivonen could provide. I also think he is a different option from RVW and Hooper, if he was playing up top he could be used as an effective target man, both as a lone striker to link up play, or as part of a pair for a second striker to play off.
