Why would JR want to sit on the bench most Saturdays and be a nobody, when at CR he is a key man and receiving fans adulation. Please explain this to me (and surely to God it is not about money!)

Er, no, I was looking for an actual quote from the man himself rather than "Sky Sports understands.....". That's not a quote, that's just lazy journalism based on apparently nothing but speculation.
Until I read at least one quote from JR expressing an interest then as far as I'm concerned it's a non-story.

To be fair to SSN they are a lot better than most media sources.
I still think he will stay but would think we will lose him in the next year or two now it's clear the big clubs have indeed noticed him and not just Mignolet and Begovic.

lets be frank, whenever you read 'sky sports understands...' you have to take it with an lorry load of salt because they almost always 'don't understand'. just last week they 'understood' that wayne rooney was in talks with arsenal yet today david moyes has said that was nonsense. however, if the worst happens, and i really hope it doesn't - and i have faith in john to make the right career decision here - but i'd be straight on the blower to mark schwarzer for next season while we find time for a longer term keeper

What that basically says according to my admittedly limited Dutch, is that Toivonen is not rushing to make a decision; he is taking his time to make up his mind and currently his future remains an open question. Perfectly understandable from his point of view I would have thought.
Where's 1950canary??? Perhaps he'll change to being 'glass half-full' with this signing!!

I go way again for a couple of days and you miss me. I did say earlier that I would be chuffed to bits if we signed this young prospect in addition to Wolfswinkel although I'm not too bothered about the others we are being linked with. I also fear that we will lose Ruddy as footballers have an incredible belief in their own ability and no doubt he thinks that if he goes to Chelsea he will quickly become number one choice and I doubt whether Mrs Ruddy will encourage him to turn down a massive increase in salary. As for my glass being half full - me? - you must be joking!! The most optimistic thing I can say is that so far I have not looked at the odds being offered on us going down but if Ruddy goes and CH decides to give Bunn his chance I will certainly start looking. As for me running to score the winner - I can't even run towards the Pub any more - not even a high speed hobble!! Mind you if Amanda Redman turned up to teach me new tricks that might put a spring in my step.
The only thing that has struck me about this Ruddy deal is that Chelsea (if the rumours are true) sound very keen on him and willing to splash the cash. If that's the case, they can only really have him in mind as first choice. At first glance, that sounds bonkers - Cech is a brilliant keeper and at times was probably the best in the world. He may have faded a little, and we all know how brilliant and underrated Ruddy is, but I think few would suggest Ruddy is better than Cech. So why would they put Ruddy first choice? Mourinho. He went a bit bonkers at Real Madrid with Diego Lopez, so he has form for this sort of thing...
Basically the argument is that Ruddy will go as he believes that he is good enough to be Chelsea's no.1 so his choices in his head would be either play for Chelsea and double his salary (at least) or stay at Norwich. If those are his choices then he would probably choose to go. We all think he would go there as no.2 at best and so his choices are money versus the chance to shine and play in the World Cup.
What I meant was that few footballers go to another Club with the thought that they will spend the next 2 seasons on the bench or even worse. They have a great deal of belief in their own ability and I think that if Ruddy signs for Chelsea he will do so with the firm belief that he can quickly oust Cech. After all Chelsea have also signed 2 new midfielders when they already had 13 others on the books - mainly international midfielders. Did they sign with the belief that they won't make regular starts? I could well be wrong but I fear that if Chelsea offer us the right money Ruddy will go and I also fear that CH has more faith in Bunn than I have although again I have to accept that again I might be wrong either with my judgement on Bunn or how CH would see the situation.
Am I alone in finding the terms of this Ruddy debate hugely depressing? Not because the thought of losing JR to Chelski is depressing, but because of the cynicism about the considerations which might influence any decision he was called upon to make. Likewise the (I hope joking) comment that Mrs Ruddy almost certainly attaches more importance to her husband's income than anything else -- which else might just include e.g. the implications for their young children etc. etc.
