right, well that to me stinks of bullshit because just four hours ago chris hughton had a press conference with nathan redmond where he categorically stated that we had received NO BIDS for any first team players. so unless chelsea work bloody quick, that is sky sports news making up crap again
Hughton also said something along the lines of "we've had no bids, but I wouldn't say even if we had". Managers lie all the time.
What a manger says in a conference means as much as what a media outlet say. The main headlines on SSNews are rarely wrong, whatever you want to believe. It's not a gossip column or rag. It's happening regardless of you believing it. Shame.
look, it could be right - we don't know do we - i'm always more inclined to believe what my club says ahead of a news organisation, but if you think sky sports are 'rarely wrong' you're as mad as paolo di canio 'sky' is basically 'the sun' on tv
I've rarely seen breaking news or headlines of clubs bidding being wrong so that's my opinion thanks no need to start insulting
Not sure if true but if it is Ruddy would be mad to go there. Would be an entirely money based decision and I for one thought that JR had a bit more about him than that. After sitting on the bench for years at Everton you would think that he would know better.
Why is that depressing? Surely it's the way of the world? How many wives would want their old man to turn down a vast incease in salary? If he moved to Chelsea his family would live in the very affluent areas where most footballers live - why would that be detrimental to his wife and family? A quick calculation indicates that all else aside the sort of salary he would get produces a potential mortgage of approx £12m - you can get a lot of house in a lovely area around London for that.
IF ruddy goes to chelsea I hope Hughton gets a pick of some loanees then. Wouldn't mind a few of their fringe players at us for a year. Also hope we get a quality replacement if we have to, Bunn and Nash is not a 1 and 2 that fills me with confidence. Still have a feeling he'll stay.
its a short career - players take the money when they get offered it. he might break a leg and never play again. it gives them security. that being said, i do think ruddy would regret going to chelsea. he is still young for a keeper and if he keeps performing as well as he has been for us he will be going to the world cup next summer and be back in the shop window in 12 months time, possibly to be a big clubs number one. he could end up playing games at chelsea if anything happens to cech but realistically he isn't as good as he is at this moment in time and with courtois waiting in the wings next season (they've already stated he will be their long term number 1), it strikes me as the wrong move at the wrong time. he may well see it differently, as 1950 pointed out.
I can take a joke pyjamas but I think your tendency to bury your head in the sand when bigger clubs approach us is naive ala PL and Villa last summer.
I'm hopeful he'll stay too, as I think we would struggle to find as good a keeper with however much moneybags Chelsea pay for him.
right, so i've been wrong once (i think the vast majority of us were wrong on that one) and now i constantly bury my head in the sand? o......k......
I'm not saying that mate and I'm not falling out. The reason I mentioned the PL case was because it's the only previous in recent years where a bigger club has come in hard for an asset of ours and that asset has jumped ship as I think JR will. Difference of opinion that's all.
well that's fine then. i certainly am not burying my head in the sand though. i said at the time we first heard about it if chelsea offer what we've asked for then every player has a price and he'll go, i just don't feel it would be a good career move for the player. financially fantastic and he would play a few games in europe and whatever and you never know with injuries, but its a big risk for ruddy with courtois in reserve and i don't see him as that sort of person. he took years to get settled and thankfully for us it was norfolk where he did that. big call to move at this time. you only live once though and as 1950 points out, ruddy will believe he can be number one at chelsea. i'm a massive fan of his but i don't think he is as good as cech.
This is the thing. There is no guarantee that he will get offered a big move like this again and he may go on to regret not taking that chance. I'm sure that will play on his mind too. For that reason, and also the huge increase in wages, I couldn't really hold it against him if he decides he would like to go there.
nobody can get upset if he goes though. the money would be tremendous for him and he's served us well. he may feel this is a once in a lifetime chance. have to say though, hughton didn't sound like a man about to lose one of his prized assets this afternoon, cool as a cucumber though he always is oops. i basically typed what danary had written
Apart from the fact it's a ridiculous generalisation lumping all "footballers" (none of whom he actually knows personally I might add) in the same, or even similar mindset. No, apart from that you both might possibly almost have a point
i was agreeing with the fact that players have a tremendous self belief in their own ability to play the game (or at least the best players do) and ruddy could see himself displacing cech, even if we maybe don't. and wives do play a big part in whether a player moves or not. a very big part!
i've spoken to a couple of local journos (who admittedly know as much, or rather as little, as we do about this) but they both effectively gave the same reaction. 'probably nonsense' won't ease the worry of some of you, nor me in all honesty, but sky sports are the only organisation running with the story as it stands
