Can't see this happening. Already lost one keeper. Also from a club view why invite higher offers? No way would McNally say that! From Ruddys view why leave a club, unsettle his family to become a number 2 elsewhere?
Ron Gourlay : We would like to give you 5 million for England international John Ruddy? David McNally : Don't say things like that; it just makes you sound stupid. Ron Gourlay : I don't understand? David McNally : I see you've set aside this special time to humiliate yourself in public. Ron Gourlay :Hey? David McNally : Are you always this stupid, or are you making a special effort today? Phone lines goes dead
The Ruddy offer is almost insultingly low, and nowhere near enough for it to be worth it to us. I'd rank him as being as good a keeper as Mignolet, who went for £9m, but even then you'd have to ask if it's worth it. We'd need enough money to find a suitable replacement, and to make significant other improvements to the squad. At £10m it's borderline on whether it'd be enough, and surely any more is too much for even Chelski to pay for a back-up keeper, particularly with FFP lurking? Then there's the small matter of convincing the big man himself to go. He'd be no closer to the England No1 jersey sat on Chelsea's bench than he is as our first choice keeper.
hmmm a little concerning that it's chelsea sniffing around. JR seems such a level headed chap, i doubt this would turn his head though!
So Marcel brands has officially confirmed that Norwich and PSV have an agreement in place. Now waiting for Ola to make his mind up on the move. Which will probably be a no. Also were 3rd on Redmonds list of suitors, behind Everton and Swansea.
really woudn't be too concerned by this story, just requires a little logical thinking rather than impulse thoughts. i'm not saying chelsea won't be interested - i think they probably are (they need home grown players) - but it's a big year for ruddy with a world cup on the horizon. if he left now and ended up on the bench (which he probably would to be fair, cech is class), he'd miss out. another year playing regularly at norwich, after a difficult last 12 months with injuries, is the only way forward for the big man. if he keeps progressing the way he has since joining the club, there will be no shortage of suitors in 12 months time. he has four years left on his current deal i believe, we are in no hurry to sell, he's in no hurry to move. he'll stay.
would love to know why you think it'll be a 'no'. i see no logical reason to suggest it will be. he's been on holiday for two weeks, as far as we are aware, no other club has moved for him during that time. psv effectively confirmed this today by saying its down to the player if he wants to join norwich. we are in the hot seat on that deal. if the player is unsure then he shouldn't accept, of course, but i can't see how you can think it'll probably be a no at this stage. to me, it seems more likely to be a yes. it'd be a bold move for the club and the player if it comes off, so toivonen is quite right to make sure he's happy with the deal on the table. i think we'll know more in the next four or five days. as for redmond, that does look unlikely but i never really felt we'd be his first choice - too many options available to him, bigger wages on offer elsewhere. you never know but i think toivonen is far more likely than redmond and leroy fer probably.
supers, good call re ruddy's year coming up. i had a look a Leroy Fer's season, so despite missing about 2 months in the autumn with the knee injury, he still played 26 games in the dutch league. hence he must have come back strong in the second half of the season. obviously everton had their medical staff looking at him and must have seen something they didn't like or took a view on the likelihood of future knee injuries. i'm sure our medical staff will be all over this too - IF we get to that stage. i'm still a bit gob-smacked we are discussing players of this quality
I will say it is pleasing to see one of our players interesting one of Europe's top clubs and manager's, and more so were telling them to get lost
How about we get Toivonen, Fer and Hooper signed. And try to get loan deals for Naughton and Sinclair. I would be pretty happy with that, providing we are still interested in Sinclair, i think he would be good competiton for Pilkington, for me niether would be ahead of each other which couold help push them both to put in their best performances.
I'm waiting to see what happens on Monday and give the club a week or so, but we better start seeing some activity over the next few weeks.
Or what? What can we possibly do but wait and see what happens? Fortunately, for most of us, patiently!
