Twente have confirmed there is interest from English clubs for Leroy Fer, though no deal will be agreed until he returns from holiday.
I would put this in the Toivonen bracket. Could happen but unlikely too, both holding out for bigger clubs!
I do fear that we are being used by agents to boost prices. Hope I am wrong as I like the names we are being linked to, but got tha feeling.
In theory, I think we could afford Hooper, Toivonen and Fer, they'd probably run to a combined £15m or so, which is slightly more than I think we spent last summer. With Redmond supposed to be nearer £3m, that'd be £18m spent, and we've already spent £1m on Garrido. 5 signings for ~£20m sounds to me to be about what we'd be expecting this summer, and covers all the positions we need to, with perhaps the exception of LB. As LB's are in general a much cheaper signing, the money from any Vaughan sale could go in that direction, or there's always the loan market.
That's the name I'd got in mind. Whether we've actually got a budget of £20m for transfers, and the wages to cover 3 more big signings, Redmond, and whatever Spurs would want towards Naughton's, I'm not sure.
I just think that Leroy Fer is too good to be true, as Pablo says. These kind of moves are clearly being leaked to boost fees for agents/wages for the player etc. Lets face it, if Newcastle and Everton are seriously interested then we don't stand a chance with the above!
I think they look pretty good signings for reasonable money at 18 million. I would still like to see someone who can keep the ball for us and I don't think any of these players will do that.
If those are our signings, it's a pretty massive vote of confidence in our entire defence and Bradders.
Why would Spurs want to loan him out again? He came to us for games and PL experience and then last season was in their squad getting his fair share of games. Surely if they think he is good enough they will keep him in their squad or, if they don't rate him enough, sell him. Can't really see any benefit to Spurs of loaning him out to us again. Regarding the other players mentioned, whilst it would lovely if it were true I cannot see it happening. I was given fairly reliable imformation that after Garrido there was approx £13m left and this ties in with what Superman was told. I just hope that some people aren't beginning to expect too much and be disappointed with what we end up with and/or who we have to sell to make way for them.
1950, not sure whether Spurs would let him go out again, I agree that he's at the age where he needs to be breaking through or being sold. I'm just going off the rumours though. Olsson is the only other LB I've seen linked. With £13m, we'd still probably be able to afford two of those big signings and Redmond, and we'd effectively have the same full-back options as this season, as I can't remember Tierney featuring much in the league. That'd still be a massive step up.
Agree with that. In fact, despite what I have said on this and other threads, I do fully expect next years squad to be a massive step up on last year and in fact last year was a massive step up on what Lambert left. However - no - let me finish on a positive note.
Richard Askam reckons we've agreed a fee of around 8mil for Fer, + were close to signing Hooper for 5mil then supposedly that would be our budget gone and considering it's bigger than last summers I cannot for the life of me see how we only would have 13 mil to spend!

I just looked into Fer's injuries a bit, to see what scared Everton off in January. Apparently he had a rupture of the outer meniscus in his knee, and Everton were concerned about his recovery from this. Does anyone more medically-minded know much about this type of injury? Surgeryman? £8m is about what Everton were prepared to pay in January, so it wouldn't surprise me if that's the price. For that money though, I'd be a little worried about said injury, and whether he'd bring as much to the squad as two other signings for that combined fee. If It's Fer or Toivonen+Redmond, that's a tricky call. If £13m is what we have to spend, and Supers seems convinced Hooper is likely to sign for presumably around £5m, that's the sort of choice to be made.
SkyBet make us look unbackable favourites for Hooper's signature... http://www.skybet.com/football/transfer-specials/event/15305277
