I for one hope we don't try to play like Barcelona. Amazing for fifteen minutes, tedious as hell for 75. I'd rather we tried to play like Bayern.
Well, yes... You make it sound like Bayern play crap football, which is ridiculous. I think theirs is currently the most exciting and enjoyable to watch at the moment. So do you mean you want us to try to play like Barcelona? I think Barca will struggle more and more over the next few seasons. Their style just isn't sustainable without the extreme talent of Xavi, whose talent is on the wane. I wouldn't say they've been found out because clearly they will always be challenging at the highest level, but that style of the last four or five years is fading and, in my humble opinion, uncopiable.
I think we're considering Toivonen as a CAM signing (rather than a LW or Striker where apparently he can also play), and to me he seems like an ideal progression from Hoolahan (who will also no doubt play his part next season). He still offers creativity, but he's going to be more dangerous from distance, and when crosses are delivered, he can be the late arrival to support RvW. He'll also be more help at set pieces, something we were already very good at. How we line up next season is going to be interesting, I'd love to see Hoolahan and Toivonen on the pitch together, I could imagine them working together to rip defences apart. On-form Wessi sometimes seems to think too fast for the rest of our side, so with Toivonen hopefully he'll have someone always on his wavelength, and they'll both be making the moves the other wants.
apologies carrabuh. i could have sworn you were a fan of lambert's style but now you've said what you did its obvious i'm probably mixing you up with someone else. the old memory is going!
yes, i read that. he's a good player and would offer a much better 'pace' option than jackson did. wouldn't be surprised if we kept tabs on di santo too, who's been released by wigan - not a goal scorer but a talented footballer, certainly has potential
some good news should be announced later today - russell martin signing a new three extension with the club. also, mcnally has said they expect to announce the home pre-season friendly in the next few hours, once it's been finalised
yes. strangely, i thought he'd end up at west brom. spooky! i think the fee is a bit steep, i wouldn't pay more than £5m for him.
IMO, Toivonen would play as a deeper playmaker in CM so could well play with Wes in a 4-2-3-1 formation. He can play on the left or even in the hole, but prefers the deeper role from what I've heard.
Am I the only person worried about the potential price of Kone? I wouldnt want to be paying £5-6m which seems to be the figure people are discussing for someone who turns 30 in Nov. Its instances like this that make Hoopers value seem reasonable. I think hes 24 and is likely not to lose us much money even if things didnt work out. I know I keep saying this but I dont think we are in a position to be spending £5m+ on players who are around 30. Toivenen on the other hand would appear to be a real steal!
Long term loan deals for Jake Livermore and Kyle Naughton? http://metro.co.uk/2013/06/18/norwi...uo-jake-livermore-and-kyle-naughton-3845562/?
According to the article in Metro, he "is believed to be keen on a return" (to Norwich) PL played him mostly at RB, as I recall, but it's LB where we could use cover - though he did play there too for a few games.
His appearances for Spurs last season were primarily at left back, with the occasional game at right back when Walker was unavailable.
Prefer him to Garrido, although I think whittaker would be fine given a run at left back. But maybe this is a signal that Russ is being seen as a centre back now....
never been a fan of jake livermore but he played pretty well last year for spurs in the games i saw. if i'm on the fence with regards livermore, then i've leapt over the fence and am chasing around next door's garden after kyle naughton!
