I heard a few times on various radio stations that Wenger sets a price for players and wont budge.
Great in principal, but not sure its going to win you the league!

If that's the case it could cost him his job in the end, the fans only have so much patience. They've got the money ffs.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but SSN reporting we've made a bid for Serie B Brescia's Andrea Caracciolo.

    I know!

I like the fact that he sticks by his guns and wont pay over the odds but at the same time the competition are willing and are spending so it could end them up in a lot of trouble.

No thanks. Over-paid, injury prone and not blessed with a great attitude. Surely he should be off to Lortus Road with all the other retirees from the bigger London clubs?

i think that's a good system to be fair. the problem they've got is that they are a big club (one of the three biggest on these shores) whose fans demand big signings but most of all, trophies. they are as far away from winning the league as they've ever been in the last twenty years in my opinion. no depth to their squad at all. if they'd got their act together they might have had a chance of closing the gap to the top three but i think they'll do well to finish top four again. i didn't think they would last year but it was close! it'll be close again but i think a lack of champions league football would hit them hard. i do think coming out to say they were going to 'splash the cash' this summer has made the situation worse. should have just said nothing

Hold on, we agree on something Arsenal-related <yikes> <laugh> What needs to be taken into account though is the crazy fees that are being paid this summer. According to the Telegraph (bit more reliable than the Daily Fail), Arsenal were ready to pay £23M for Higuain; Napoli paid £31M for him! And Madrid are prepared to pay the equivalent of £100M -- for Bale? Madness. <ok>

if arsenal don't start paying a bit more for players though, they will get left behind as spurs, liverpool, chelsea, man utd and man city are all prepared to go that little bit further. its not as though they will have risked the future of the club had they stumped up an extra £8m for higuain... and he'd have made a big difference. the manager has always been stubborn but its now really hurting the quality of their team

Re. Gustavo, my guess is that Wenger has his eye on someone else and wasn't prepared to pursue that one. We'll see. Still a couple of weeks to go. <ok>

So in the middle of all this Arsenal bid between £10M & £11M for Cabaye from Newcastle.
However Newcastle value him at £30M. Really £30M?

Exactly paying an extra 8m for a top striker soon pales into insignificance if you miss out on the jackpot of CL football over the next few years.

As I said, crazy. As David Pleat said about Wenger (on the BBC a few days ago): "Sometimes I think he's the only sane one". But I think we can say McNally and Hughton are pretty sane too. <ok>

he's left it too late now. he won't get top notch quality unless he pays well over the odds. cabaye, for example, is the sort of player you know you will have to pay at least £18m for, and he goes and bids £10m? laughable really...

gustavo is a really good player too. wasted opportunity for arsenal. having said that, wolfsburg could well have a great season this year...

arsenal apparently gearing up to make an offer for our old friend Alderweireld.

That'll be a cheeky bid of 2m then!

Re: Arsenal - the way the league is at the moment with ultra wealthy individuals running clubs as playthings unless Arsenal are prepared to match their spend and risk the future of the club (which they won't) then Southampton have as much chance of winning the league if their owner is prepared to invest in fees and wages and Aresenal are not. If this continues there will come a time when Arsenal are selling their players to the likes of Southampton or any other club with wealthy owners. Players do not care who they play for as long as they get the most cash they can and the best chance of winning something. Ten years ago who would have chosen to go to Man City over Man U or Arsenal? Twenty years ago who would have gone to Chelsea over Arsenal or Man U yet both get first crack at the top players now because they pay the big bucks.

I accept that there will be kudos in playing for the likes of Arsenal for some time to come as they are a big, big club but if they continue to miss out on players it will drop them out of the Champions League which will then start a viscious circle of reduced income = weaker players = lower league place = reduced income etc etc.

The only consolation for Arsenal fans is that they are doing things the "right" way and that their club is not beholden to an individual and is likely to be around in 20 years time regardless of how the finances in football go. If meaningful financial fair play ever comes in they will be world beaters but whether it can ever happen is open to question.
