Have to say, would anyone else consider using Holt as part of a deal to get Weimann, I would imagine we would have to pay some money as well. Personally I would consider it?
The article says that Norwich's valuation of Holt is around £2m and the bid fell well short. £2m?!? I actually think we should sell him and move on if a reasonable offer (about £4m?) came in. However, surely £2m is well short of the going rate for the club captain of a Prem team with no particular reason to sell, particularly as he still has plenty of time on his current contract!
Yeah, I'd have thought maybe £3m even now - he's still scoring goals, and getting older won't affect his game as much as many strikers.
Kebe is that inverted right winger than Hughton might want as cover for Snodgrass, but is he really any better than Bennett? He's 29, and didn't even play that much for Reading before his injury in March. 5 goals and 2 assists in 18 games (16 starts) is no better than I'd have expected Pilks or perhaps even Bennett to do in the more attacking style that Reading played. Transfermarkt value him at £1.8m, and Reading don't need to sell so he could easily cost £3m, for a player with little resale value, no real potential to speak of, and isn't an improvement on what we've got. No thank you.
that jimmy kebe link goes way back to paul lambert 'allegedly' launching an unsuccessful bid for the winger when we were first promoted to the premier league. i wouldn't touch him with a barge pole - he's always been massively overrated. he's quick and, well, that's it basically. he's the sort of player a team coming up like hull or palace (maybe to replace zaha) might possibly go for though.
Kebe was one of those players who seemed to perform well against us - I remember him making both Long's goals in the 2-0 home defeat the year we went down to L1 and he also made Long's goal in the memorable (remember Holty's last gasp winner) in the 2-1 win in the 2010-11 Championship promo year. Lambert used to show interest in guys who played well against us so I guess that's where the original story came from. Not sure he'd offer us much now though - still a tricky customer but I'd prefer playing Elliott Bennett meself !
So James nursey has said there will be news in the mirror tomorrow regarding another striker. Will be interesting to see what he has to say, though usually it's complete rubbish.
I would also question whether Kebe has the 'all-round' play needed in the PL, which Bennett certainly has with his ability to track back to add cover and break up attacks and he is also one of the few genuinely pacey players we have. Given that Snods was a virtual ever-present this year, Bennett provides a useful alternative, especially if City are able to bring in a PL quality player on the LW this summer.
He's (Nursery) based in - and biased towards Midland clubs, if I'm correct? Benteke? What a double act with RvW that would be - except we don't do 'double acts' upfront any longer <sigh>
i see Swans being linked to Diego Capel. i would hope with our pursuit and capture of RvW we have monitered him. having played together would be good to re-unite them at Carrow Road. a fee of £8m was mentioned, but with Sportings problems it could all be talk to get more money.
I'm a big fan of EB and who can forget his winner againsts Spurs last season - even the MotD pundits raved about it!!!! Yes please!!!
