Before he left, Rodgers said: "The business people at the football club are looking to put deals in place. As a manager and a coach the earlier you can get it done the better. And as I type, some developments.

BBC Sport reporter Conor McNamara has got some news for Liverpool fans now: "You do wonder, having let all these players go, is someone going to come in? We have to think about a certain Clint Dempsey and I am told that apparently Liverpool have made another approach to Fulham this evening to try and get that deal through."
