I'm attempting to learn some German for a stagg weekend in Berlin in September. I've been surprised at just how close it and English are; I knew there was a Germanic base to ours but finding it much easier to learn than French or Spanish. Attempting Welsh was the worst though..

I'm not taking the piss! The problem is that latino Spanish is different to Castillian Spanish (as is Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese). Latino Spanish differs from country to country and this is even more pronounced when you use slang terms.

Apart from counting to 10 and the usual danke, bitte, autobahn and beer, I found german very hard and gave up! Perhaps it's having to put the noun at the end of a sentence (or is it the verb?) is what put me off! <laugh>

and latino spanish is very different from mexican spanish, they chop everything to bits and speak so fast!

A word for big black guy, derogatory, and can also be used as a greeting is Negao..... go figure! <laugh>
 
Do any of you speak ENGLISH...?












PS - I'm attempting the "typical Englisher abroad" routine... say it slower and louder <ok>

"I speak a little Spanish" would be "Hablo un poco Español"

"a" means "to".
"Pequeño" usually means small as in size, and "un poco" means "a little" as in amount.
And there's no g in Español.
