Started a thread on it but mods can merge it in, Boudebouz has come out and said we have been in talks with him. Winger/AM lefty, tricky, bags of skill, not sure on the end product. Doesn't suit a crossing and finishing game but would probably link well with Suarez, more in that mold of player.

    its called MONEY, and ambition.

napoli are at thier peak now. its all going to go downhill so again its up to whomever and whatever is appointed at lfc to SELL the club and its AMBITION to these guys.

If we don't try we will end up with junior holiett and mid table finishes.

You tell me... if you were an ambitious player and were offered 150k per week form louis van gaal for example to come play for the revolution in red next year would you not jump at it? of course citeh or chelski can offer 200k and such but we must go for the very best and try to make it happen.

I'm personally not going to listen to any more rubbish buys like adam and downing when if you just go out you can find 4 times the player for the same moeny.

Going for the top stars is really not going to sort us out, its just going to make us struggle to meet the criteria of FFP when it sets in.

The way to go about it is recruit these players BEFORE they get to Lille, Napoli etc.

Cavani was available for a loan fee of roughly £4m in 2010 and a future fee of £9m which would be paid in 2011. Instead we decided to sign Poulsen for the same price. Its not really about signing current stars for massive money, Liverpool have never done that to compete, not even under Paisley and Shankly. It was all about signing the future stars and thats what we should be concentrating on now. I don't have confidence in our scouting department to find the right players though...

  5. I appreciate that but the three you mentioned are more established in a higher quality league than Suarez was. Plus, when we signed Suarez and Carroll, we had just sold Torres and Babel. It was basically a straight swap.

I am not doubting our ability to spend £30m on a player, I was just saying there is absolutely no chance we would go for all three.

However, in reality, we won't get any of them, especially since two of them want CL football and the other has committed to Chelsea since we spoke earlier <ok>

  6. I read a comment by Paul Dalglish not too long ago where he said scouts were a thing of the past. Yes they are still around and they go and watch players but usually there are already at least half a dozen other scouts that have been watching that player for at least ten games already. The network is much more open nowadays and there are few gems hidden away anymore.

We need to take gambles on these emerging stars but we also need some quality coaching along with excellent man management to get the best out of them too, whether it be reserves, on loan or a part of the first team. A bit of luck wouldn't go amiss either.

I'd completely forgot about Aurelio was at Liverpool ... And then was more angry with myself that he was there for nearly 6 years.

I always liked Aurelio tbh. Quality but made of glass.

i'll keep saying this. there's an easy list of top quality guys that are no brainers. next year cheslea will have torres, mata and hazard and everyone in the world knows just how good those players are years ago.

I can tell you for a fact downing is nowhere near that list. coates would have been and so would suarez and frankly chelsea just snagged one of the very best prospects from a "lesser league"

Cavani and higuin may be available. there are others like erikkson and maerinez that are just no brainers so if we never bid and end up with the likes of bloody hoilett FSG may as well just seel us and get out with a small profit now cos they are wasting thier time and ours.

I think we need one or two big/respected names to sign up - another Suarez calibre player anyway.

When people think of Liverpool, they think Gerrard, Reina, Suarez. We need a fourth horseman so to speak.

Saying that, I'd still take Hoilett. He has attributes we simply don't have (pace, trickery, audacity).

Soldado isn't going to the Euros - he'd be cheap and not much sought after. I'd be going for him.

Would rather Benega from Valencia but hey...it's unlikely. AFD are you gonna change your name now that Aurelio has gone and also the club's doc Peter Brukner?

    Don't want to tempt fate!

May pay homage to a past great. A European cup winner... Djimi Traore!

  16. Although I agree in principle, the three that Chelsea have signed cost them over £100m plus wages! Quite simply, we are not Chelsea (or Man City) and we have to spend money wisely with the impending FFP rules (if UEFA / FIFA apply them effectively).

Would love all the players you have mentioned though <ok>

No thanks. Both better than Adam and downing, but we should be looking at better players.

Munain at bilbao would be one pick from me.

It's not all about picking up big stars though. First you set out how you want your team to play, and Rodgers obviously likes his team to keep the ball. So next you only go after players that are comfortable on the ball but obviously still have quality. If you pick up 4 or 5 players that are intelligent, comfortable on the ball and have a touch of quality and can link them in with Gerrard, Suarez then you suddenly get a front 3 or 4 all working on the same wavelength and spotting runs and passes without even having to think about it.

Just look at Newcastle, Ba, Cisse, Ben Arfa & Cabaye all suddenly clicked and linked up and looked brilliant at times.

You could go and buy Messi and stick him in our team but without players on a similar wavelength to play alongside with him he wouldn't look half the player.

Munain is a good shout and ticks a lot of boxes.

With Rodger's love of Spain and the Spanish style, it's likely he has a few names in his head that he couldn't get at Swansea but would love to capture now.
