Well of course no one knows FT.

But some sort educated guess is not impossible. At end of 23/24 our wage bill was around £30m. 80% of turnover. Last year, we can assume it went up.

It was widely reported that Dan Ballard's contract, signed last July was in the £20-£25k a week region, which given the overall total is not unreasonable. It is very hard to imagine that Dan Neil was offered less.

The average Championship wage for 23/24 was about £14k, including four or five teams paying a lot higher after relegation. We do not appear, if these figures are right , ( they from Kieran Maguire and Swiss Ramble) to be short changing players, and no doubt everyone got a significant and well earned uplift on promotion.

It's up to Dan. But I hope he is thinking for himself. The door is not being knocked off it's hinges, and he should get himself set up. He's earned that. Soon he'll be 24. Time just flies away for a footballer.
Still a lot of assumptions and guesswork mate. You may be close to the mark. For me if Dan, as captain, were offered equal the top earner at the club last summer that would have been a fair offer. But we cant be certain. My issue is with folk saying he should have signed when we dont know the detail, and nor should we. The bottom line for me is we dont know why the contract isnt good enough, it may be not even down to money. So painting Dan as the guilty party doesnt sit well with me. That is all.

Everyone knows my view of him. But I dont think it is colouring my opinion here. We cant be sure whether he is being treated fairly or not.

End of the day I think he goes. Even if he signs I think he is behind the likes of Xhaka and Diarra. They are just better players. He is a lad who has played a load of games at a young age. My bet would be he wants to play week in week out. He will know the club have moved beyond him in terms of starters now. I would hate being on the bench and I would bet be would too. Maybe folk are correct and he isnt premier league quality and he is a middling championship player. If that is true I hope at least he finds a club where he can play week in week out at the level. At the end of the day he is a pro footballer and he should play football games.

How many others from the L1/Champ squad have refused their improved contracts?

No we can't know everything mate, just assume it will be a Ballard type of deal. Similar length etc. No fault. No guilt on anyone.

But, again for me, I am thinking FOR Dan. I'm a bit worried his agent sees him as " one" of his clients and not his sole focus, though for all I know that might be miles off.

I bang this drum all the time, but it's a big deal. A pro footballer, if he's good enough and puts the graft in should get himself "set up" as soon as possible. Sort the rest out later.

And by the way, I personally think there is enough improvement in him to get involved and play here. He might need to improve to get in regularly, but he has shown improvement in the past.

But, Dan, get set up man!
