What the mags can’t accept is that there will always be a food chain and no amount of blood money will put them top of it.

Liverpool had to sell Suarez to Barca, Man U had to sell Ronaldo to Real Madrid. To a way lesser degree we had to sell jobe to Dortmund.

They’ve put themselves in a real nightmare scenario currently, they’d get a record breaking deal for isak now and could strengthen the team for the better (like Liverpool post countinho). But they could end up in a position where isaks value decreases significantly in a years time and there’s a chance he refuses to play for them this year anyways (tbf that would be shameful on his part), Howe already said he won’t play next week. Not to mention the fans absolutely 100% turning aggressively on a bloke who scored the winner in a final a few months ago.

Chaos there at the minute which is lovely to see. Their true colours have been shown for the country to see the last few weeks.

The conrract is a 2 way thing. The club should only offer what they feel he is worth. Dan should only accept what he feels he is worth. You should never undersell yourself if life, not matter your career. Either they get round a table and compromise or they find a sensible way to part ways. Soon as well for me, already dragged on.

One of the things I dislike about the current game is how cluba seem incentivised to sell home grown players for PSR purposes. I keep reading the phrase pure profit and it makes my skin crawl tbh. It is not beyond the realms of possibility clubs will low ball homegrown players because it makes them attractive sales. It is a really skewed model.
Cannot either side backing down now. We have offered what we think he is worth. His agent has asked for what he thinks Neil is worth

The question I ask myself, if I'm being honest, is this ...

... would any Sunderland supporter be hoping we'd sign Dan Neil in this window if he'd come through the Bristol academy?

If we did sign him how much would we be happy to pay and where would he play?

Sadly I can't see any PL side wanting to buy him and can't imagine he'd be scouted for Europe.
Did you not say that Brentford were showing an interest? He's a good player, captained a promotion winning team, has played an awful lot of games at a young age and is rarely injured. Might not be everyone's cup of tea but think he Will get a move to a decent club.

And there's your answer, Newcastle see themselves in the same category as those clubs ...

... in reality they're no better than Tottenham or Villa and less of a club than Arsenal, Man City or Chelsea.

They're only world famous in their own minds.

We all know how much you adore Dan Neil but he is not worth the same wage as players who were playing champs league last season. He just isn’t that good in my opinion

If Isak had a gentleman’s agreement that he could explore his options this summer, then Newcastle are the ****bags here.

They’d get top whack for a player who clearly doesn’t want to be there. It’s all getting a bit petty isn’t it?

A gentleman's agreement with their owners is a non starter. Surely with their 'morals' a gentleman's agreement means absolutely **** all.

They surpassed even their own delusion by expecting the Arab money to propel them to the top of the tree. Now, leaderless and rudderless, reality is starting to haunt them.

That's what I was told, as an understudy/replacement for Henderson.

I like Dan Neil, and have admired him for years, but in his jigsaw there's a few pieces missing at the moment imo.

Yes he captained the side who were promoted through the playoffs but his contribution in those games wasn't great tbf.

I doubt he'd become captain elsewhere again so easily, he's too quiet and passive for my liking.

I just don't believe any Sunderland supporter would be hoping to sign him, this window, if he'd come through Leeds or Blackburn.

Cards on the table I'd get him sold and hope to get £6/7000 back in ... I hate saying it but that's where I am.

Yep. These things can never be proved of course, so at times like this, they fester and infect everyone involved.

If such a deal is there you HAVE to honour it. We lost Jack Clarke and Jobe. We could perhaps have got a bit more for each of them, but a deal is a deal, and I think it is no secret that we had deals of that kind with both of these players.

Lets not forget Neil has had this contract offer long before the new signings arrived and has been stalling on it
How good is the contract out of interest? I am interested to know length, salary, bonuses, release clauses etc. Just so I can decide if I think he should have signed it or not. Of course even then it will be only my opinion on whether he should or shouldnt, not Dans.

Reckon I will be able watch today’s full 90 mins match at a later point? Not sure if I’m going to be able to watch it live

I know you think Neil has his flaws but surely we would want more than £7k if we sold him :emoticon-0102-bigsm
