I think this is why homegrown lads inevitably move on to maximise their earnings. Ballard being from a prem club is irrelevant. He was never a prem player. Alese, Roberts, Cirkin also signed from prem clubs. Should they be on more than the team captain?

If they’d have offered him same 25k as Ballard, and he’s hung on, and is asking for say 40k now, that’s not unreasonable.
He’s signed for 4 years at a rumoured 70k a year.

Not as slow as it once was in my view. I really enjoy Seria A and it is played at a really good intensity and pace. But they do value players who can keep possession.

I’ve got nowt against Neil other than my doubts about his step up but he’s also got himself into this pickle, like Stewart did.
Once we got beyond the first 24 hours following the initial link without a report coming out along the lines of "Granit Xhaka laughs in Sunderland's faces regarding potential transfer" I've been quietly confident that we were still pushing for this one. Had it really been dead in the water I think the club would have made it known via Phil Smith and co. Here's hoping Xhaka fancies it and we can pull this one off
I think you're right mate but I've got to say if I was told there'd be news of trying for 2 players today I wouldn't have predicted El Khannouss and Xhaka
