The issue is those 3 have missed a lot of game time

Seelt hasn't had a proper run of things at senior level, he might be able to step up but the PL is so unforgiven and we must be strong at the back to stand any chance

Id want 2 CBs to come in then let Alese go out on loan
You could argue Seelt needs a loan as well, but thats the joy of opinions. I'd keep both here as im trying to be positive and the injuries clear up in Alese's case and they both push for a start,

A monster £40 million centre half and the other lads alongside or as back up and i think we would be fine

It also tells us something about the increasingly high stakes for Sunderland as they return to the top transfer markets following promotion. With figures of this level involved, the risks are significant and it is telling that they have ultimately opted to walk away. Everything has to be right given the potential liabilities and on this occasion, it wasn't. For what it's worth, sources at both ends of the deal have indicated that there is no lingering bad feeling as Laurienté returns to Italy. Time will tell, but there are also no suggestions that this is brinkmanship and that a deal could be revisited. Everyone seems to be moving on quickly.

With Alese, I think he'll be great and solve his injury problems once he isn't being relied on if that makes any sense. A lot of his issues have came from being rushed back, if he isn't being relied on to play every week then he can naturally build slowly and work his way into the team. Has all the tools to be elite.

Totally get that, I think with Seelt it was 1 really bad injuries rather than lots of ones that Alese has had

I think keeping both with Ballard and O9 would be a big risk, be 2 injury prone CBs, 1 just back from a bad injury and 1 whose got a big issue with his shoulder

We need 2 imo, the step up is huge and just feel having 2 many CBs with massive question marks over them is not worth the risk

Fair comment, but i think we may see a bit more rotation this season and although the league is more intense there is more gaps between games for recovery so that should help

Def has the raw tools, and i totally get hes been rushed back at times but it's a big risk for me keeping a few CBs who haven't proven they can stay fit week in week out

For me Alese or Seelt need a loan to help them reach their potential

CB won't rotate a huge amount, I agree in the forward areas we will but I dont think we will rotate in defence that much

Defence is so important about building relationships

I'm a huge fan of Alese BTW, I just think it's a massive risk to only sign 1 CB this summer, even if it is an elite one

Yeah i'm of the belief that we should be looking at 2 CBs. A Diakite level one and then a 'cheaper' option.

Trouble with 2 centre half's is where does that leave Ballard, Seelt and Alese? Sitting on the bench not developing.

Its a hell of a balancing act for the recruitment team, not a bad headache to have though

Yep the cheaper options would be a left footed for me

Diakite would be immense but I'm not getting carried away with that as we know things change so quickly

Id love to know what kind of budget we've got for teh rest of our signings

That's why i would loan either Seelt or Alese out. Ballard will start the season imo, even if we bring 2 in so it's then up to him to keep the shirt

It really is a balancing act and it's not an easy thing to do. But if those 3 are 3 of our 4 1st choice CBs I'd be really worried tbh, none stayed fit last season, Alese has missed more games than he's been available for and Ballard has played half or less of our league games in 2 of his 3 seasons

2 CBs are vital imo

For me, I’d keep 09 Ballard and sign two CB’s. I’d keep Alese as a ‘cross fingers he’s fit’ 5th option and loan Seelt to the championship. I have high hopes for him, I think he needs challenging and I think that’s the league to do it. Maybe even just a loan until January, but it’s a big risk making him one of the top 4 for me. Ballard is an injury waiting to happen and 09 is injured.

Didn’t realise he played for France this year. Abdu dominated him (I know it was a friendly).

says a lot about our young striker
He looks like he's got the lot, I'm totally on the fence with keeping him or loaning him out (sounds like the club are as well)

Just saw you’d typed almost exactly what I was typing sorry.
