The weekend is usually quiet from a transfer perspective. Strange that we haven’t made any defensive signings given how light we are there.

I was hoping for x2 centre backs anyway. Given the injury news, that might not be 3 defenders with some versatility in there. Even when they are back, AA DC L09 LH are going to have to build up to match fitness. Not against some academy lads being given minutes if that is appropriate, trust RLB to know best. Bainbridge and Johnson perhaps.

Now if Browne stays he COULD be that extra midfielder but I don’t think anybody is too keen to see him in the premier

I am repeating myself here, but I dont have a concern about Browne being in our squad next season. The lad has played 70 international games. He isnt an average player by any means, he is a good one. Really it is up to him as he will have offers I am sure and if he wants to play 40 odd games fair enough (I would personally so get it). If he stays I would give Jones a loan. If Browne goes I would keep Jones around and let him train and learn with our squad. I dont feel desperate for another CM if Neil stays. Just an opinion though.

We were delighted to sign him, he gets injured, there isn’t really a role for him over season, doesn’t make him ****.

He isn’t gonna start every week and control games on PL, but like you say 70 caps says he’s a lad who can and will contribute.

He’s a calm head.

The video of him and his missus after Wembley was one of my favourites. Loving the moment, feeling it.

He can play a part. Steep learning curve for everyone. Some will falter, some will shine.

Be class to get him signed, I know some don't rate him and don't think he can step up but I love seeing a local lad in our team

I have concerns about Patterson stepping up, just don't think he's developed at all last couple of seasons and GK should be a position we improve

I have some concerns with Neil but every season he's improved certain aspects of his game and if he can imporve the speed he moves the ball at then he's got a chance to make it. The defensive aspect of his game was really impressive last season and while he could still add more strength when tackling i think his reading of the game defensively is really good now.

Aye. I’d wager the club think that by Afcon Rigg will be at an acceptable PL level. We as fans would be mad to back against that.

Him and Mayenda are the 2 most premium, skys the limit assets we have.

He's regressed so badly his last game for us was probably his best game for us.

That's not regression and was also at the highest level and highest pressure occasion he will have experienced up to now.

I’d agree I don’t think he regressed but I didn’t see any improvement in the areas where that was needed ie more confidence in commanding his box and his ability with his feet.

Patterson has improved every season since he made the position his own bar last season.

I wonder if the club believe he has his ceiling or want to push him further to see if he can make the improvements he needs to, the rumoured pursuit of a keeper seems to suggest either of these could be true.

I’ve a lot of time for Patterson but I would like us to bring someone in of better quality.

Can’t take captain off him that would be a shocking move.

Most clubs have multiple captains at various levels nowadays. If he doesn’t play stick it on Trai but officially he needs te retain the band.

Not sure mate. I think he starts against West Ham and it’s up to him from there.

Could argue his game suits the PL in style, it’s whether he can quickly adapt to the level and get consistent.

We haven’t replaced him directly, and it doesn’t look like we’ve had a major play to do so as it stands.

great shout re forest, they’ve some work to do with their two main men in elanga and Gibbs white moving on

re our midfield I look at the likes of Yates at forest, never pulled up trees in the championship but has become a dependable member of their squad and team at times.

Also look at Adam Wharton, good player yes but I’m not seeing why neill can do the same or better than both of those

Sums up the Patto situation for me. When you can make a save like he did against Moore then a top keeper coach will be able to build out from that. Lets see. Cutler may well already have started to get the measure of what is possible and will be guiding the recruitmen team accordingly.

Maybe Cutler can get his claws in and improve Patterson. That's his job. I do hope we sign another keeper though and the two of them battle it out, push each other on.

2 things on that article. Sounds like Dan Neil is signing he deal hopefully. But also reads like the club think we have enough centre mids. Which I don’t think can be true. There definitely was room for Hendo in the squad. I didn’t want him but I do want another

5 robust players who all expect serious minutes is probably enough tbf. Even more so if we bring in another attacking player who can play as a 10. Also maybe they think they can mop up any extra minutes with Triantis and Browne.
