I'm a bit puzzled regarding people's thoughts on Talbi.

I've noticed there's a belief that he'll be coming in as 'one for the future' ...

... I think he's already playing at a level whereby he can start games, especially at home.
He will be starting or coming off the bench, no way a one for the future imo

I think it's likely we see Lauriente - NEW ST - Talbi

I think you can both be capable of starting and he one for the future, he could act as the main man on the right but I think we will bring in someone else so he doesn't necessarily have to (such as a top level loan).

Then when the loan player leaves after this season Talbi will have grown as a player, adjusted to the country and be more capable of taking up the role of main right winger

Going to be honest, I don't particularly like Lauriente + Talbi. It's fine but i'd rather Talbi + a left footed winger. I'd much rather Mundle as the only out and out left winger over Roberts being the only out and out right winger.

Why don't you like them mate?

The crack seems to be that we want a squad capable of competing in the cups as well as the league, so that alters the conversation a bit.

If that's the case and we managed to win the Carabao Cup, is it still a major trophy or does it go back to being the mickey mouse cup?:emoticon-0102-bigsm

I sort of agree but, on the other hand, are we sure Talbi is better on the left? If he's come in to be primarily a right winger then I think it's fine? Will leave us a bit short over AFCON but Mayenda can play on the right as well, let's not forget. And, at a push, Rigg, although results were definitely varied with that experiment last year.

Anyways let's sort some actual wonderkids, I was an admirer or Gilberto Mora when he first broke through but I didn't expect him to be starting for Mexico at 16 and genuinely being the best player on the pitch in the concacaf semi final.

We need the Mexican.
Have to wait until 18 unless he has a British passport which I doubt

Yes that makes sense and I hope, as I've previously said, we bring in two big loans with PL experience.

The big clubs have big squads and I think we'll be in prime position for season long loans. After the season we'll have produced a player, who's now at their peak, and a 'reserve' who's now able to play most games. I just don't think Talbi, Diarra or the others will be out of the first team squad for the entire season except for injuries and suspensions.

I think our loans will be critical this season and players will be looking at Sunderland as the place to go ...

... I really don't see the likes of Leeds or Burnley attracting better loans.

Same mate, that's the difference maker.
