Really hope we go for experience as well. Makes sense to start with these young bright talents, but we really need a few who know the league

Aye thats the worry. When you go for good players theres always big competition

Yep going for better players means more likely to miss out but also means deals might take longer.

I don't know if we can put Mikautadze in the "agent talk" bucket though. The strongest / firmest link to a successful Mika transfer is coming from a Sunderland fan account. He's either making it up (I doubt) or the club genuinely believe we have a chance. I just wish he hadn't leaked it due to the high expectations it creates

I'm sure before the window is out we will have at least one player with Prem experience, but I don't think its necessary nowadays. Athletic, skilful and tactically intelligent players can play anywhere. The premier league is no longer a special case as foreign tactical influence has changed the style of play.

Mikautadze was first revealed in the press on Monday, and Petrovic on Wednesday.

It's Friday morning.

Neither of these qualify as a "long will they won't they scenario" just yet :D
I get that, but my point is that in recent times it seems to me that it is pretty much always job done (or near enough) before it hits the press - these "have expressed interest or "have made an offer" cases rarely seem to come to fruition.

Maybe I'm a glass half empty sort of person - but when my glass is half empty I'm already thinking of my next pint!!

If either were coming they’d be done now

Lol what? It's the 4th of July man, transfer negotiations at this level are often very complicated with multiple clubs involved. It could be weeks yet before deals are agreed and Petrovic / Mika make their decisions... And they could absolutely end up coming to us at that point.

There have absolutely been some which are suddenly well advanced, like Sadiki. And I'd agree that typically the longer it goes on the less chance there is. But its still super early. I'd be agreeing with you more if we are still in the same boat on Monday or Tuesday.

Tomiyasu released by Arsenal, top player when fit wont be short of offers

Injured till the end of 2025 like

He's out until Christmas. Seems a really weird time to agree to terminate your deal when its unlikely anyone picks you up until January. Think about all the lost wages!!
Yeah with it being mutual consent must have something lined up

Agreed. TBH I'm not even convinced we need a new striker, I really believe Mayenda will step up. He may not be properly "PL quality" right now but I fully believe he will be by the end of the season if given the opportunity, look at his progression last year, it was insane how much he improved with a few games.

Bit concerned that bringing in a new "star striker" might limit Eli's minutes and stunt his growth a little. But on the other hand, I understand it's probably good to not put full pressure on him to be the main man from day 1...
The latter for me. I think the club don’t want to risk anything in the important positions hence the big bids in those positions

There’s no expressed interest with these two. Both have been reported to be in negotiations. Petrovic has been reported to be quite advanced by a couple big journalists
