I have a feeling Dan Neil might leave.
Bet365 have Sunderland 33/1 for a top 10 finish next year. Gamble responsibly and don’t get carried away, like at least one person did this morning
I don’t think for one second we won’t offer him a good wage. But what I was told was he was being awkward about something else. Not his wageBoth agreed in principle post season then went on holiday. Not signed, I don't think yet.
Neil isn't being awkward btw. Righly he wants significant increase in terms. Madness that our captain and someone who played ever single week was one of our lowest paid players.
I think we have to be a bit careful mate. We have no idea what the terms of the contract might be...we only know it's likely to be complicated. It may be that everything is agreed except...for example, the value of a buy out clause,or,is it a 5 year deal or a 6 year deal.Lots of clauses with consequences for both parties doesn't mean there's any "gamesmanship" involved. And,I'm certain,Wembley will have moved the goal posts!I don’t think his ability and performances last year warrant this level of gamesmanship in his contract year
personally im on the no room for sentimentality brigade and whilst he has up side it’s not as much as it once was and Enzo and diarra are better, if they got a guendouzi it’s a mammoth task to start and don’t think he does.
It could be argued had he signed before Christmas when allegedly a deal was put to him it would be guaranteed he’d still be here, but whilst he was cautious about what league we’d end up in for his own ambitions, he can’t have a cake and eat it so maybe the club are doing just that?
From what I know it's not like we are offering higher wages either
Players now know we will do everything possible to develop them and if they outgrown us then we will sell them and not be difficult about it
When we sold Stewart, Clarke and Jobe we weren't awkward about selling them, we kept to our word and got them the moves they wanted
Players want to come here for that, I think the media stuff over the last 12 months has helped in a way - the club is seen in such a good light across football these days
We've said it a few times since KLD has come in but the pi$$ take party truly has stopped

Yeah I don’t wanna say much as it might be ****e. Fingers crossed he signsYou have heard different from me mate. Let's see.
Id heard similar but just that he wants to be allowed to leave if we go down, don't know if that's a clause or what.I don’t think for one second we won’t offer him a good wage. But what I was told was he was being awkward about something else. Not his wage

Oh yeah absolutely, but from what I can tell that's the only thing that wasn't totally finalized. It's the right thing for the club and for the player but sometimes finicky to come up with a specific price.Mate the vast majority if not all discussions ongoing with new contracts or new signings will have this. The club will also want to insert wage drops where possible. It's the right and sustainable thing to do to prevent financial risk.

Hopefully the will is there on both sides to get it done. There’s always going to be some awkwardness in negotiations as both sides look after their interests. Doesn’t mean anything untoward.
This really. Fans get very emotional over it with a "if you don't want to be here then **** off" kind of attitude but the player has every right to look after himself by asking to be paid the going rate.
Let's also bear in mind that Neil won't have had a new deal for a while and will be on peanuts relatively to most of his teammates. Le Feè has probably just signed on 10 times Neil's current wage
