Seems we really want him
I trust them to have something in need if we want him this bad.

I think he’s a good player just have concerns defensively in a 4. I could be proven wrong

I’m less sure. Our transfer business isn’t spotless - particularly for bigger money - and this is a 28 year old who has seemingly gone up in value 4-5x in a single year.

Our transfer business of players over the age of 25 has been pretty spotless tbf

Fair we've taken a few risks on younger players who at this stage haven't shown much worth

Much easier to rationalise calling them a success when they don’t cost us anything. £15m for a lad who went for £4m a year ago is a bit much. And it’s not like he’s a young player who can make a step change in development.

They've still all made a positive impact so they haven't been 'failures'

No idea how much he's going for tbh, he is a good player - a bit iffy defensively but will add something to us going forward

Browne didn’t. Also I guess it depends on the criteria. Generally older British players have contributed (although even the successes have had rough patches) but foreign players are much more up and down. The age is relevant here because of its relationship to cost. That’s why older freebies are much more easy to see as positive signings. If we’d paid £5m for Danny Batth he’d have been looked upon with far less fondness.

I do find it odd how transfer obsessed this place is. It’s certainly fun in the summer - and we need to do good business to thrive of course - but I wonder if it is out of sync with reality sometimes. Every single big money link we see is being hailed as yet another masterstroke, when the evidence of the KLD era is that our big money signings (relative to the level) are not guaranteed success. So much to like about the current regime. Our financial work is astonishing. Our youth development is amazing. The culture we’ve created at the club is powerful. Our targeting of coaches shows real skill (one aberration apart). Our ability to find undervalued players is impressive. Our development of players is the engine that has driven our success. But our selection of ready-made high budget transfers simply hasn’t been at the same level. Now for smaller fees and with time to develop you can see the value in most of our signings. But a 28 year old left back for £15m is not going to be a development project.

not every player has to be a project, we’re trying to survive in the hardest league I. The world

£15m is not a figure to obsess over, the quality of player is

fact is 15m is peanuts for a player transaction in this league in 2025 and the vast majority will be recouped or written off through the gargantuan revenues involved now

I'm heartless me I think, but tbf I've never really been quite fond of patto so that might just be me
Not many players have had such critical roles in two promotions. He was brilliant against Wycombe and Sheffield in the two biggest games of his career to date. I’ll always have a soft spot for him regardless of if he stays or goes.
