He doesn’t sound that good mate

They believe that tensions were lingering at the club due to the situation of Mile Svilar, whose contract situation was being delayed. While the farewell took place by mutual agreement, the goalkeeper’s renewal proved to be the last straw for the Friedkins.

The newspaper claim that Ghisolfi had a strained relationship with many agents – including those of Alexis Saelemaekers. The ownership wanted to cash in on the sale of Angelino and the failure to do has fallen on Ghisolfi’s shoulders.

More than that, there were issues regarding the renewals of many Primavera players. These issues emerged in a clear video call involving the parties and the Friedkins learned that only Claudio Ranieri’s intervention was making sure of Svilar’s renewal.

A solution was reached early in the morning and CFO Lorenzo Vitali was the one to show Ghisolfi the door, with Ricky Massara in pole position to replace the Frenchman.
That’s a fair point tbf, and offers some balance.

From a Sunderland perspective though, under KLD we have appointed high quality operators in their positions (speakman - high reputation in academy football, David Bruce - high reputation for off field work) and they’ve both been brilliant successes so far.

What we do lack is people at the top with experience at the higher/elite levels of European football and this lad appears to have experience there.

It’s always a risk, and could go wrong of course, but KLDs appointments in key positions so far have been thought out and improved us significantly, I think that’s where a lot of Hope is coming from with us chasing this lad for a while reportedly.

I know a few are concerned about this appointment and how he might go away from KS's vision, it's wasn't KS vision its KLD. KS was brought in to implement that, what a job he's done, and this guy will be brought in with the same vision in mind

I can only see it being a good thing

Now let's get the signings done
This is a great point that I’ve lost sight of. Think I get carried away with speakmans academy background that this is his philosophy about the younger talent coming through but as you say it is KLDs vision and he’s the one getting people to implement it.

It's definitely more collaborative once KS came in but it's been said multiple times in interviews over the years it was KLD that set the vision. He then appointed people to implement that, he picked KS - which was such a great appointment. I'm trusting KLD with this appointment as well.
Yeah, sorry what I mean is that the broader vision has been developed, shaped and refined with KS’s input throughout. You’re right though, you don’t get that without KLD’s outlook and his recruiting KS in the first place.

Apologies, yeah that is totally true

The club talk about a growth mindset a lot, I'm hoping this appointment really helps grow KS as well - they'll be able to learn from each other

With appointments like this it has to be clear who is responsible for what - that's when it could fail if its not clear

Suppose time will tell how good this appointment is but I'm buzzing with how far we've come to even attract someone like this

It’s clearly a coup, no doubt about that.

I wonder if people are still questioning the ambition.

Think of your own work environment. You're leading a medium sized project, which you're so successful at over a 2 year period that it's suddenly a large multi-million pound project. As a result, the director appoints a new "senior" project lead who has "experience" handling multi-million pound projects and you now are still the project lead in title but with less responsibility, another layer of management above you and no opportunity or reward.

How many hours would you wait before sending your CV off to other firms? Or would you seriously go home feeling all warm and fuzzy because you have a "mentor"?

I'm not saying this is the reality by the way. This is the reason why I don't think this bloke is coming in above Speakman.
I think naturally a DoF is above what Speakman’s role is

This sounds really positive and I trust your view on it.

I've not really got much of an idea how the details of this stuff work, but is it not a little late for him to come in and be heavily involved in this window? He won't have seen enough of our players and presumably he's not seen much of our data or scouting network. Is this going to be one of school transfer windows where we're trusting this guy based off his contacts and network rather than the clubs data based models?
The article has explained that he’s been brought in to help us attract top talent from abroad too. Probably going to help with that with his connections etc. it’s also been said we’ve been in contact with him for several years which is why he came here. He likely knows all about us

Considering Juventus, Newcastle and other clubs wanted him mate and how many in the footballing circle are raving about this I’d imagine he’s good. Even Roma fans were saying he was hard done to at their place

quite a narrow perspective on a career that spans much more than Roma.

time will tell if he is a good addition but given where we were a few years ago with some know nowt from eastleigh I’m feeling positive.

You can’t be sentimental in times like this. KS has done a fantastic job but has never worked at this level and despite his good work has shown flaws previously especially in foreign markets.

let him build our club up domestically whilst this fella does his business

I have faith in the hierarchy for it to be a relatively successful appointment but success is subjective and, as you say, at what cost?

The most important thing for me (and I appreciate I’m likely in a minority) is that we retain an identity as we attempt to transition into establishing ourselves as a Premier League club again.

I’d hate for us just to become another generic Prem club, not only would it be a bit dull for me, but it would lower the ceiling of what we could ultimately achieve in my opinion.

The last four years we’ve established such a clear and obvious identity and I’ve loved it and it’s been fundamental in how well we’ve done, the pride we’ve felt and how much fun it’s been along the way.
From the articles I’ve read about this appointment this is purely help to help us attract top talent with his contacts. It’s still the model just working at a higher level

Interesting the make up of KLD's leadership team all seem to be similar profile young ambitious operators in their field who have needed or earned a chance young just like KLD himself

The Roma ownership group have totally went away from the structure they have at Roma at Everton with Moyes having majority control on all football things - so can see that they don't necessarily have an overarching strategy they want to implement just yet

Happy to see how it plays out, I expect a lot more links now, as any of the Ghisolfi most worked with agents may be touting their talent for some of the promised land coin of the premier league
