This sounds really positive and I trust your view on it.

I've not really got much of an idea how the details of this stuff work, but is it not a little late for him to come in and be heavily involved in this window? He won't have seen enough of our players and presumably he's not seen much of our data or scouting network. Is this going to be one of school transfer windows where we're trusting this guy based off his contacts and network rather than the clubs data based models?
Chances are negotiations have been going on for a while so he will know the players we are looking at

We might not see the true benefit of him this window, but I expect him to be putting names forwards to KS and they'll be discussing them as a team. Having 2 quality members of staff is better than having 1 (as long as they have the same vision)

I have faith in the hierarchy for it to be a relatively successful appointment but success is subjective and, as you say, at what cost?

The most important thing for me (and I appreciate I’m likely in a minority) is that we retain an identity as we attempt to transition into establishing ourselves as a Premier League club again.

I’d hate for us just to become another generic Prem club, not only would it be a bit dull for me, but it would lower the ceiling of what we could ultimately achieve in my opinion.

The last four years we’ve established such a clear and obvious identity and I’ve loved it and it’s been fundamental in how well we’ve done, the pride we’ve felt and how much fun it’s been along the way.
Agree 100%. If this is about this new lad coming in and working to the vision that speakman and kld have established then all good for me. If we’re chucking it all away so that we just become an identikit pl team then I’d be fairly sure that it will limit quite how far we can go as a club - and ultimately seal our failure and relegation. It’s essential we maintain a point of difference in how we operate. Otherwise we’ll just be left overpaying for mediocre players who have the wrong motivations because we didn’t want to lose out again to a London-based club.

Indeed. Change always brings with it excitement for new possibilities but it also brings concern. What does this mean for Stuart Harvey for instance? New people, new relationships. It may not work as well as it has to date - and we may lose talent in the process. Guess we just hope for the best outcome - and that this is considered the natural evolution by all at the club rather than an indictment of how we’ve operated to date.
Nothing will change for Stuart Harvey, he is the chief scout so that role won't change - the only thing that might change is who he reports into

That’s what I mean. If he reports to someone new who he thinks is a bit of a dick then everything could change. Happens every day up and down the country when reporting lines change. Hopefully they establish an equally positive relationship fast - but often it doesn’t happen like that.

I get that but the opposite is also true, they might prefer them and really learn a lot from them

KLD has nailed all his important appointments so no reason it's going to change now

I always prefer to look on the positive side of things with these and I think he will bring some fresh ideas to the team to help kick us on

I know a few are concerned about this appointment and how he might go away from KS's vision, it's wasn't KS vision its KLD. KS was brought in to implement that, what a job he's done, and this guy will be brought in with the same vision in mind

I can only see it being a good thing

Now let's get the signings done

This seems to be a move to help reduce KS workload and it's likely that Harvey will work with Ghisolfi in recruitment leaving KS to concentrate on matters concerning players who are already at the club. KS has said in the last few days he's been bombing around Europe, when there are significant contract issues, we've still not had any announcements on,here at home.
As we grow as a club into the PL,it looks like a very shrewd move to me.

This is how I see it and how I hope it is. Speakman is still the man in charge of the overall strategy of the club, academy, contract renewals etc. but Ghisolfi is just the new head on the recruitment side with perhaps a little more autonomy than Stuart Harvey has had previously.

My questions are not really concerns to be honest. I'm just questioning the narrative and exploring the possible angles to understand how it works. The ownership have my trust completely based on what they've achieved to this point.

Oh there’s definitely potential for real positives. And KLD has largely done brilliantly with appointments (or perhaps the headhunter firm initially - followed by Speakman from that point - has). It’s just a note of caution. Lots of huge excitement on here about the sexy new foreign fella from a famous continental club. Just somewhat surprised at how readily people will drop their old toys a matter of days after the club vindicated its strategy these past few years so completely. Last thing I want is another ‘we’re shopping at Harrods now’ moment:emoticon-0102-bigsm

As long as there’s money to spend. I back the guys in charge to take the club in the right direction.

I think it’s been more collaborative than you’re suggesting.

I get that, but for me it's always about continuing to evolve and improve as a football club - i think this appointment does that

The vision is KLDs and he's been spot on with it and his key appointments - so I'm trusting that they've made this one for the right reasons

We aren't doing something ground breaking, this is a very common across Europe. Having 2 senior people focusing on the footballing side is so important, can't have a single point of failure. When in the PL everything gets bigger, more staff, bigger squads etc so having someone to take some of that off KS is a good thing

I think with all the talk of a 5 year plan and succession planning that everyone at the club including KS would’ve known that there would be an appointment like this when we returned to the prem, looking at romas statement too it looks like he is leaving there to join us specifically so chances are he’s worked a notice period etc, I think the likes of KS would’ve also known about him coming in for a few weeks so it’s probably already been digested

This for me too.

It's definitely more collaborative once KS came in but it's been said multiple times in interviews over the years it was KLD that set the vision. He then appointed people to implement that, he picked KS - which was such a great appointment. I'm trusting KLD with this appointment as well.
