‘Challenging for the no1 jersey’ is a lie that gets told. Players don’t challenge, they merely stage manage a replacement. See Verbruggen or Raya for recent examples. Any keeper we get who is willing to chance sitting on the bench isn’t gonna make a difference if we lose our keeper for a long time. We either replace Patto or we don’t. Fine we could chance our arm on a Moore upgrade but there’s only one first choice keeper in my view.
I wouldn't say it's a lie, a fair few times in recent premier League seasons a keeper has displaced another for the starting spot and kept it.

Think they were all inevitabilities that were just played out to save face tbh. We just need to decide who our 1 is. Maybe that happens over the summer but I’d prefer us not to confuse things ideally. We’ve got too much work to do elsewhere. If we think Patto can do it then we move on. Of course we could lose him to a long term injury just as the window closes and that would be problematic, but I don’t see much we could do to insulate ourselves from that completely. And the more likely alternative is that we spend time and resources on a like for like keeper who sits on the bench most/all of the season.

Yeah I suppose we'll just not agree there, I think we need better than Moore as a backup.

You wouldn't want us to go into the season with one player in any other position.

It's giving Brentford credit isn't it? They've shown for a decade or so now that they know what they're doing, very few missteps along the way.
But their big jump was under frank they weren’t doing it before it’s not like Brighton where they have lost their manager multiple times along the way this is their first change in 7 years and they are giving it to a manager who has no experience

Just where I’ve always been with keepers tbh. It’s totally different to outfield. No rotation, much higher threshold for being dropped, less likely to pick up injuries. I know it’s not a problem until it is, but 9 times out of 10, money spent on reserve keepers is dead money in my view.

Their operating smartly and ongoing improvement as a club predated the Frank appointment though.

I think he was most definitely brought in to replace him. Think that was just arteta saving face tbh - or maintaining Ramsey’s value.

Not so sure.

Feel like the plan was Raya help with his footwork hence the initial loan. Raya went for very good to utterly superb in a better side and Ramsey (who is an excellent keeper) was toast.

But it’s not all to do with the players the managerial appointments matter before frank they had finished 9th/10th 3 years running.

we were smartly run and made the wrong appointments last year and by the end of the season we were looking over our shoulders made the right one and we got promoted I just think people are underestimating how much the appointment effects things

100% we need a better replacement than Moore, we improved our no2 GK last season and we should be doing tue same this year

We need someone to really challenge Patterson for the no1 jersey and I'd trust Johnstone to do that more than Moore. GKs are totally different to all other positions as only 1 can play, you should always have a no1 - but the no2 GK should be pushing him all the way

There's some decent frees about tbf, better than the cov 3rd choice

Lukas Nmecha going to Leeds on a free apparently, haven't seen him play for a while seemed to have loads of potential but never really kicked on in terms of numbers

can’t say I’ve watched him much but wouldn’t be too excited if we were signing him

Dunno mind before injuries he was bagging a load of goals and got Germany caps.

Wolfsburg are good at the old striker lark.

just feels like one of those where if was good enough for us to be a step change he wouldn’t be out of contract at Wolfsburg and would have more interest.

Not saying he wouldn’t improve us but I’m hoping we can get better by spending some cash

Aye can go either way.

If they’ve let him go because they don’t see him recovering hell of a gamble. He’s been a disaster there after first season when he was excellent.

They have Wind, Tomas and Behrens all there as well.
