City is a possibly a club we should be looking at for options in terms of their younger players. Look like they are going big again this summer after a big January window. Theyll not be risking any financial issues whilst the charges are still looming, so could have some they have to get off the books/ want game time.

Combine that with Pep saying that he doesn’t want a squad of 24 players and they’ll be desperate to shift a fair few.

I know this is the norm and generally accepted, but I still don't understand how stuff like this doesn't fall foul of the "tapping up" rules? I thought clubs weren't allowed to speak to players until an agreement had been made with the selling club... but apparently having full contract negotiations to the point of agreeing a deal is fine?

They just need to have permission to talk rather than needing the deal agreed. It’s likely we’ve given him permission to negotiate with Dortmund subject to us agreeing a fee.

as it makes no sense us agreeing a fee if they can’t agree personal terms

As long as they ask the clubs permission then they can speak to a player. Often a 1st offer has been made, so the clubs are speaking about the price - makes sense to player speaking to the buying club early as if he has zero interest then negotiation stops there

Can’t argue with that

Like I said earlier - the main frustration with Mayenda came from great chances being missed. He’s put that right

Yep. And he'll miss plenty more I expect. But he's clearly going to be a goodun. Hope we get him sorted with a new deal sharpish!
