Just watched a highlight video of Blake purely to get a feeling for the kind of player and I can 100% see this as genuine interest. He's exactly the kind of profile we've gone after in the past. I'd have assumed he'd be the Championship option more than premier league though.

In a strange way, ourselves, Burnley & Leeds may have to rely on eachother to take points off the established teams. Give the Wolves, Evertons & Fulhams something to think about. I think the rest of the lower Premier League have had the pressure taken off of them, particularly season just gone. Knowing that the bottom 3 seemed pretty nailed on gives them a chance to spend and perform with more freedom. We may need to gang up on them in order to drag them down with us. If Leeds can maybe shake things up a bit, it might end up being to our benefit

Call me mental but Leeds/Burnley being much better than us this season means nout for me. Leeds have a load of players who’ve already played in the PL and proven to be not good enough but very good at champ level. Burnley have brownhill and Cullen in the middle, both top top championship players but ****e in the PL. We have youth on our side and players who COULD make the step up if they have the right quality alongside them. The transfer window for each of the 3 clubs will be what decides on who’s the better team this season.

He absolutely is. Got bags of talent. Wonder if we sign him and loan him out

Agree - when we got promoted from L1 we were considerably better than Wigan/Rotherham in our first champ season despite being worse than them in L1. New season, new squads etc

Also, we may have the advantage of our players being used to winning games when we have not been the better team. Winning tightly fought matches, often being under the cosh but somehow scraping through. The playoffs being the prime example. If we are going to stop up, we have already got the blueprint and the experience of following it. Streamrolling teams (like Leeds did) or comfortably stopping lesser teams from scoring (Burnley) might not have been good practice for them for the coming Premier League season.

This will be the telling season. All 3 promoted clubs for different reasons have a chance to survive. If all 3 go down with a whimper for the 3rd successive year and 2 or 3 parachute payment clubs come back up then I do think there will start to be more coverage and discussions on how that can’t continue. How they fix it, I have no idea.
If the PL becomes a closed shop,an NFL style draft between the top two divisions is the answer.

Fair points. I'm not going to speculate on anyone's chances, including our own, until we see what the players are.

How realistic is Ben doak? Buy back clause etc included? Looks excellent for Scotland against good sides which is probably better to judge him from than his time in the championship

It’s plausible but likely top end of what we could do.

Liverpool won’t want a buy back, they will want a proper fee.

Double snap with the underrated Curtis Jones be canny.

Probably living in football manager world but was thinking £15m upfront buy back of similar so effectively a longer term loan

similar to what we did with cirkin, hate what the transfer window does to me :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Scousers tend to sell high rather than do them deals.

They know exactly what they want in a player and Doak is quality, but it’s a long way to be a Liverpool player.

Probs looking mid 20 as a realistic starting bid, why not?

He will have a superb Premier League career I think, just not Liverpool City Arsenal levels.

Nowt wrong in that.

Agree with all of this, out of all the tenuous links so far I can see this having something in it. Debuted at 17 for Watford, linked with premier league but chooses a move abroad for game time. Mainly used as a sub for Utrecht first team, and whilst you can see the talent on the clips looks very raw. Wouldn’t think it would be a substantial fee for him.
