Some may find this odd, given my love of Dan Neil, in whom I admit to seeing very little wrong. If we dont go up I think he should move on. Not that I think he needs a fresh start. But I do think he is a premier league, or maybe even more a good European league midfielder. He has served us so well, imho, that I find it hars to begrudge him a move. He is at the age now where playing at the next level is right for his development and his own career. If we go up then I really hope a new contract is signed and he leads us in the prem.
I was thinking about what McTominay has done at Napoli. Now Dan is a different type of player ans of course yet to play at the level. But it is an example, imo, of what certain types of players from this country can do. Scott was very underrated at Man Utd, less so by there fans, but when you look at how the likes of Casemeiro came in. Italy has been perfect for him hasnt it? I could really see Dan flying in a league like that, or Portugal, and playing in European competition. That said it may well be West Ham or Everton, for example, whoss coaches both apparently rate him. If I were Dan (my wildest dreams) I would love an apportunity to play for a good European team personally and come back to the prem in 2 or 3 years an even better player.
