Yep. £40m from Tommy and Jobe. Renew Neil and Rigg. Sign a couple of wingers and a main midfielder and go again
Some may find this odd, given my love of Dan Neil, in whom I admit to seeing very little wrong. If we dont go up I think he should move on. Not that I think he needs a fresh start. But I do think he is a premier league, or maybe even more a good European league midfielder. He has served us so well, imho, that I find it hars to begrudge him a move. He is at the age now where playing at the next level is right for his development and his own career. If we go up then I really hope a new contract is signed and he leads us in the prem. I was thinking about what McTominay has done at Napoli. Now Dan is a different type of player ans of course yet to play at the level. But it is an example, imo, of what certain types of players from this country can do. Scott was very underrated at Man Utd, less so by there fans, but when you look at how the likes of Casemeiro came in. Italy has been perfect for him hasnt it? I could really see Dan flying in a league like that, or Portugal, and playing in European competition. That said it may well be West Ham or Everton, for example, whoss coaches both apparently rate him. If I were Dan (my wildest dreams) I would love an apportunity to play for a good European team personally and come back to the prem in 2 or 3 years an even better player.
Dan is a good championship player but that’s about it. He’s massively overrated. I’m not convinced any premier league teams will move for him. I don’t see any sides up there currently that he’d even get close to starting. Maybe a club like Southampton could move for him.
That is the beauty of football as fans we all have our own opinions on players and their contribution to the team and therefore their saleable valuations . Selling players is easy , replacing them is a lot more difficult and that’s why I really rate Speakman who has effectively raised the club millions if we were to sell everyone that is being coveted by bigger clubs compared to his arrival when we were effectively having to pay players to go . KLD has recruited his management team very well and again I applaud his efforts.
There's certainly concrete interest from the premier league and abroad, but it is true that we can't know who will actually make an offer in the coming window.
I think we as supporters can understand when a players trajectory is quicker than the clubs, we can understand that, and we are seeing it now with Jobe and probably Dan. What is annoying for me is when players go before their time like Watson. I believe another year with us and he may well have been ready for his move, but for me he is at least a year early and is really only giving agents fees at this present time. He is a player with a lot of potential and he may rise up and take his new club by storm but it is more likely he will struggle to make a breakthrough and will be loaned out to a club on the continent to get experience. It may work, it may not. Bad transfers can cripple a career and the players need to make sure that a move is right for them, both emotionally and financially. That goes for Dan, Jobe, Riggy or any other players that may move.
The lure of European football? Scottish clubs consistently embarrass themselves in European competition because the standard in Scotland is so bad now. We need to have a proper look at this boy before making a decision on him. It's all very well dominating against the likes of Dundee and Ross County but we need to get him in for pre season and see how he fares in pre season and against our players. I like what I've seen of him btw. But he'd be wasting his career staying at Hibs. I wouldn't be surprised if rangers wanted him
Not sure a qualifying round in Uzbekistan would be enough to make him want to move there over here if he was in our plans
Scottish clubs don’t consistently embarrass themselves in Europe. They have embarrassing times, like a lot of clubs but Rangers have had a good record in Europe recently. This is their overall figures since 2018… P97 W42 D28 L27 Europa League P79 W39 D24 L16 Champions League P18 W3 D4 L11 Poor champions league record but they’re solid in the Europa. I’m sure Celtic were through to the knockout stages this season for the first time since it has become the champions league.
