I think there's a bias because he's not played for us. The fact that we're talking about a £1m fee and he's playing in Scotland compared to Ekwah playing in Ligue 1 and being talked about a few of up to £6m after St. Etienne paid £1m just to loan him for a season shows us the levels imo.

Yes I am pro Luke and I also have the same concerns as we play against elite players, just as I was when we stepped up to the Championship. I still think he has a role to play in the top flight as well but probably not as a first choice, there again this is Luke we are talking about.
My point was that Ballard is every bit as guilty as Luke but without the criticism.

Promotion was always going to leave a few players behind and he could be one.

However, he's only 22yo and has plenty of time to develop.

If all the pieces could fit together I'd happily see him on loan again in case we're relegated ...

... another season, like the last, and I think his value would increase so, as long as he has a good contract, it isn't taking a big risk.

I'm just a bit reluctant to let a 6'3" 22yo, with a good attitude, leave the club unless we're certain.

Yep i don't want to be a club that keeps loaning players out when they are in their 20s

I just feel the right thing to do for Triantis is getting him a good permanent move, while protecting ourselves with a sell on %

I like Triantis, was impressed every time I saw him last season but not enough to think he will be a PL footballer 1 day. Then I watch a playwr like Miller and you see what a future PL player looks like (i get players develop at a different rate but sometimes you can just tell with certain players)

Developed as in enough to play for us in the premier league

he’s obviously developed but it’ll be a big ask to ever be a top level midfielder

I think he's come on a very significant amount in a year and really like his mentality and attitude towards development - but can I see him in our system... Unfortunately I can't.

Can I see him playing at a very good standard though, yes. I don't want to be a year down the line and him linked to PSV for £12-15m so as long as the rumoured fee is just a rumour then he can move on

    I’m not so sure personally.

he has a lot of his game to develop to play at that level, specifically playing on the turn for me. It’s something even Dan neil still struggles with

Fair enough, honestly I feel that's one of the best parts of Neils game where he gets it on the turn and breezes past 2 players. Every now and then he gets caught out but that happens to the best players too, for me he uses his body really well to sell the opposition and turn out into space.

I was quite taken with him. Not the instant appeal of say a Dan Neil or Chris Rigg who was from day 1 going to be elite level, in my opinion anyway. Definitely got plenty to offer though and at times put a real shift in and didnt look out of place. I think the championship may be for him. Somewhere like Derby who will play good football and be looking upwards.

I am keen also to see how Elias Lenz goes this season. Bit of a setlling in period last year, being an 18 year old German moving to us. Showed some quality as a holding midfielder when I watched him. A smooth footballer if that makes sense. I hooe he stays in the u21s with Murty and gets some training time with the first team.

This reminds me of the John Mcphaill (sp) scenario. Here's hoping he can adapt

Think we should defo be in a position to be able to loan the likes out of Triantis out without really worrying about their wage etc now. I’d rather take the chance on another loan than sell him for £1m straight away, if that’s all being apparently one of the stand out players of the season in the SPL (non Celtic) gets you it feels pointless even sending players there on loan.

It is what has always made Dan a stand out player imo. His play on the half turn is very high level. It is a risk reward strategy and always has been in footballer, and like you say even the best get caught out at times. You really need that 360 degree view of the pitch to make it look effortless. But when it works, and the vast majority it does, the transition from defence to attack, or the rapid breaking of lines, can be really hurtful for the opposition. Some of the greatest players of all time have been half turn players for me. When I was coaching I would spend hours with lads on this one thing.

Providing his wages are being covered, and he has a long enough contract, we're not taking a big risk.

Yeah Derby would be a good shout really good club and like their fans, seemed to have a really calm head for such a young lad so definitely one worth keeping

forgot all about Lens really highly rated isn’t he? Had some bad luck with injury last year but still a bairn so plenty time for him too

    That’s what I mean though.

he still gets caught doing it now despite improving so much at it, and I think triantis is specifically weak at it

I wonder whether Triantis could be used as a makeweight in a deal to get Lennon Miller.

Highly thought of north of the border and playing in a similar position, you’d think Motherwell might be open to it.

I know I rate him more than most but I was surprised there was even talk (or still the possibility) of him playing in Ligue 2.

I think he suffers with our fans from not having had the redemption season (under our gaze at least) from which others have benefitted. If we’d got rid of Bellingham or Mayenda, for example, last summer then most would still think they’re ‘useless’ etc too.
