You need the right balance, if the balance isn't there it doesn't work, we had the right balance this season, you could class players like Isidor and Enzo as having experience as they are still young and talented but they had played many senior games
What are these qualities Henderson would bring us tho if his legs have gone? Don't we have 5 or 6 team leaders who have a 'leadership' role on the pitch not just Captain Dan? 09 was rallying the troops from the side lines after we equalised as an example. I know Henderson has done it all but feel he's now a yesterday's man, doesn't fit our profile in any way whatsoever so paying him a big wage if that's what we'd need to do is a no no from me. We want hungry players like we already have not those on the brink of retirement.
Adore this young man. Ability, character, attitude. What a find. French second division, mid table man.
While I agree you need balance, you still have to be good enough and Henderson flat out isn't. Plus, to me anyway experience means **** all unless it's in that specific situation. If I own a restaurant and need to hire a chef and I have two options, one is a 20 y/o chef with little experience and the other is someone who's worked in finance for 30 years and has loads of experience in life but has never flipped a burger before, i'm taking the inexperienced chef. I don't think Henderson has ever properly played in a relegation battle and when was the last time he was part of a team that doesn't see 60% of the ball every game?
Dunno why I watch every single one of these as if I didn't see them all happen live. But I do. And I always will.
Experience isn't everything but good squad building is getting the balance right - we got it spot on last summer We only see what happens on the pitch but the stuff off it is so important, you heard all the players saying how good the dressing room and the Experienced lads we signed last summer really added to that I was speaking to an ex youth player whose pals with a lot of the players, and he said they often praise 3 signings from last season - Browne, Mepham and Moore. Appartently we've they've all brought to the team is massive, and only really Mepham has had a big impact on the pitch The best teams get the balance right
get a deal for jobe that worth £35m on paper, the watson deal was £10m minimum on paper thats £45m of guarantees nevermind potential sell on, but for accounting purposes the 45 plus promotion money we really could do something if we recruit right ipswich spent over 100m right and they didnt have another 50m coming in the door very interesting times
Was saying this to a mate last week, how come Ipswich spent €150m with their biggest sale being a kid to Charlton for a million quid - and yet people think we won't even break €100m
I was quite careful to only mention Browne's 'on the pitch' impact mind as you are right and I do agree on the off the pitch influence and its importance. You don't have to compromise on ability or, even on age profile (look at the level of experience and maturity that Patto, Neil or even Jobe have now) to have that experience and influence in the squad though in my opinion and that's always the point I try and make.
so on 2 player sales we've got roughly 51m add that too the 220m or so we got for promotion we will have rougjly 270ishm to play with, and last year we showed we didnt need to spend loads on quality, think we will see us get 5-10 player in this window, maybe a few loans and a couple of free transfers
It’s a good compilation that one. Shows his touch, turn of pace, passing, finishing and amount of direct dribbles and fouls won. We’d all be moist if we were linked with him. And he’s already ours and bought in. Beautiful.
https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/spo...s/eliezer-mayenda-hits-back-transfer-31749804 Asked about his future, he said: “You’re not the first to ask me this question. Even my friends talk about it. "I just got promoted to the Premier League and I just want to enjoy it. I’m really happy at Sunderland.” In a wide-ranging interview, Mayenda also discussed his footballing upbringing and the impact of Régis Le Bris on his career this season.
I never look at age when talking about experience, the 2 don't go hand in hand I was excited about the Browne signing because I thought he would be a class squad addition for his ability 1st of all, 2nd his experience of the league and 3rd because of his leadership ability Ability should always be 1st - with personality though, need to be someone who fits into the squad seamlessly or adds to it
Sign the right players and you're not 150 million in the red anyway. You just have 150 million or ideally much more worth of assets.
You'll all be laughing on the other side of your face about giving Mayenda the No.9 shirt when Hemir comes back and reclaims his rightful place during pre-season. You've all forgotten pre-season Hemir's dominance.
