He sounds very Seelty.....

NEC is furious with Sunderland. The Nijmegen side was expecting Jenson Seelt to arrive, but ultimately had to watch the Dutchman settle at VfL Wolfsburg.

That caused bad blood in Nijmegen. "I wasn't happy about that," general manager Wilco van Schaik put it mildly to ESPN. "And certainly not Carlos (Aalbers, ed.). The takeover was a done deal. We closed the deal with Roefs, and then we also made a verbal agreement with Sunderland that we would acquire Seelt for this amount."

In Nijmegen, they had to wait a while. Sunderland were struggling with injuries, so Seelt suddenly had to play for England. "They said they'd keep him for a while because he had to play. Okay, no problem . But it took forever. Last Sunday, they said they had so many injuries that it wasn't allowed anymore.

They called again on Friday to say they were going to buy two more. So he's back. Well, we'd already made the arrangements, and suddenly we saw him yesterday afternoon in the Wolfsburg shirt. That's not how you do business. This is the ugly side of football. I've never seen Carlos so angry. He texted them this morning saying he regretted selling Roefs to them. That's not how you do business. I know Carlos to be very honest and sincere, and I've rarely seen him so angry. He was done with it.

Don't like to read stuff like this, doesn't sound like how we've done business at all. Even if Seelt (or his agent) rejected the move, I'd like to think we would have at least gotten in touch and apologised... Sounds like we're completely blindsided them which is poor form, imo.

I get that it's business, but you don't want to get a reputation for breaking agreements at the last minute (even if not technically legally binding).

Come on mate it’s business, every club is out for themselves. All good saying you’re going to stick to your word until a better offer comes, then it’s hard luck I’m afraid.
Who said seelt wanted to go there aswell
Aye. I’d hope we reach out and do something to make amends. Hardly a hotbed of talent NEC but we don’t want summat trivially to cause an issue down the line.

That said, horse **** on Roefs money like that’s a godsend to a small club in Holland/

As the saying goes, there's three sides to every story. Your side, my side and the truth. There'll almost certainly be more to it than this.

Did they do a mags and low ball us? When we had to keep Seelt due to injuries, did they give the impression that they'd walked away and looked at other options? Did Seelt have a choice between the two clubs and chose Wolfsburg? Surely they didn't pin all their hopes on Seelt and not looked at alternatives in case we had to keep him all season? Is it a case of sour grapes and painting the picture of a small club being bullied and treat badly by the bigger, richer club so they can save face?

Imagine if we were on the receiving end of a broken promise and FG/KS texted the other club saying “wish I never did the first deal with you”

Pathetic that. The NEC lad needs to get a grip.

Absolutely should have been done behind closed doors, but you’d think given how professionally we are run now a quick call and ‘look he’s a Bundesliga offer and it’s a better league for his development’ would have been at the very least decent to do.

Reads a bit like it was a sale to NEC and we preferred a loan.

We might have done but they rejected our call when Seelt’s agent told them he’s off to Wolfsburg.

Anyways. Tough for NEC. Cheers for Roefs, lads.

Some might call that a wobble along with the recruitment in the January You forgot also forgot about getting rid of Mowbray midseason before the Beale appointment and about the shambolic appointing of Doddsy as caretaker, again. There's 4 mistakes in 8 months.
Dodds was only a caretaker, and did ok in his first spell, so they thought he would be ok in 2nd spell. Many fans (not me) wanted rid of Mowbray

To me the problem with Dodds second spell was how much damage was done under Beale before Dodds took over the second time? It's possible that things behind the scenes became so bad that there was almost no way to turn it round until the end of the season. Think like Wilkinsons time in charge. Dodds as caretaker probably never had the authority (and showing now probably not the ability either) to turn it round and it took until the summer when RLB was appointed and some squad changed to turn it around.

Very quiet on the outgoings still, still windows open for the likes of aleksic and jones to get loans?

Dodds was ****e in his first stint, think back to league 1 when we were beaten by Doncaster at home 2-1 then the week later beaten 2-1 at Cheltenham
Forgot he had 3 spells as caretaker, it was his 2nd spell where he did ok

100% even if they don’t make it here they need to be playing, can see a few others being paid up too looking at you Joe Anderson
Anyone we agree to terminate contracts can’t sign for any British club until January now so don’t think anyone will be “ paid up”.
