For me Rigg doesnt need a mentor. Needs to play and learn himself. Fastest way to learn. I think we are underestimating Rigg massively. I keep seeing the phrase to play the Rigg role when talking about new players. Seems mad to me. As a coach I have no doubt Regis has 100% trust in Rigg and you dont give that up easy as a coach. If he doesnt improve at a faster rate than Jobe has this year next season I will be amazed.
I think he very well could, but also think that he isnt good enough right now (at 17!) to be playing consistently in the premier league and have us stay up. Premier league midfields are a whole new level.
They are. I agree. But look at the Jobe who came back start of this season. Rigg, I believe, will be a different animal next season. I have seen so many young lads like these who just develop physically and mentally over a summer. It is an odd phenomenen. We wont know how well Rigg copes against premier league players until he gets on the pitch. I wouldnt be surprised at all if he flourishes. Nowt against Barklay personally, but if we are keeping Rigg from the pitch for him I will be surprised and disappointed. A different level of player I will understand a bit more.
Genuinely I completely agree with this, the difference for me is that Jobe came back doing this in the championship. Rigg I feel could make the step up to being a fantastic championship footballer next year but I don't think hes ready to be at least starting every game. Thats what I like about a signing like Barkley where you essentially give Rigg a year to get to premier league level and signing an experienced midfielder to more likely contribute to staying up in the first year benefits us more. Not to say I dont want Rigg to play, but im not even sure he is in our best XI right now nevermind after the summer window - again i need to clarify this is not slight on Riggs part but Jobe - Neil - Le Fee was probably the strongest midfield we could pick and that was in the championship.
I think Rigg will start as an impact sub, thought he was class both games against Coventry coming off the bench I really think he will kick on massively next season and will show glimpses of the player he will eventually become
Think its in his best interest too, could be disheartening getting bullied at that level. I also do believe that since his mentality is top notch, it won't hinder his development when hes striving to get ahead of whoever we bring in. Hes the type of kid who doesn't take being out of the squad as a negative and just lets it push him to be better.
Although... I did say in July that if Jobe wasn't starting we should considering selling him. That aged well - his dad gave me a cheeky passive aggressive like in November to rub in how wrong I was.
Was one of the most wanted players in Europe when he was teenager, had a serious injury which derailed his career at City.
Imagine if Rigg shows the progression next season that the likes of Jobe, Triantis and Mayenda have shown this year.
I think he probably will, but i won't dare say otherwise on twitter. Got to avoid a chris rigg sr reply.
Are Andrey Santos or Dario Essugo realistic loan options from Chelsea next season? How about Ibrahima Bangoura from Genk? Looks like he's got the perfect profile for us and would be ambitious.
