What are we bringing all this up again for?

 

They do not have to sell him, though there is quite a bit of short term pain in keeping him, and a cash loss too.

But there is tomorrow to think of. They made it quite clear that they were in a good position to strengthen heavily this summer without selling anyone.

So, strengthen. Leave the player to stew. Manage the problem to suit the club, and set a precedent which looks after tomorrow.

That is what a club with extremely solid financial backing would do. They would assert themselves and send out a clear message.

Even if the coaching staff would prefer a sale, that is the approach a knowledgeable, extravagantly wealthy and properly commited owner would take.

they need something, anything to hold onto at the minute, their fragile egos and superiority complex have taken a terrible beating this summer and this gives them that little life raft to grab hold of and believe they aren’t just rolling over and having their bellies tickled.

clear insight into how we’ve recruited keepers imo

targeted keepers that:

- have been busy making lots of saves per 90.

then narrowed down imo with:

- keepers that have been busy and also done a good job at it (positive goals prevented, clean sheets etc)

- crosses clearly a factor as most we’ve been linked to have good claiming ability

there’ll be more too but it’s interesting none the less

 

personally I think his actions have gone past short term pain, don’t think there is any coming back for them

For me this is a bit about them putting on a bit of a show or their fans as he’ll be off

Looking big picture I’m thinking the plan is for Roefs to have a few good seasons then sell him for a load then by that point Matty young is ready to become our number one

Sunderland AFC today confirmed the departure of Pedro Ribeiro.

The 39-year-old moved to Wearside in October 2024 to support Head Coach Régis Le Bris and the Club’s first-team coaching staff and players.

Pedro’s time in the North East culminated in victory at Wembley Stadium in the Championship Play-Off Final, as the Club secured promotion to the Premier League.

Kristjaan Speakman said: “Following the recent restructure within our coaching team, we have been in regular dialogue with Pedro and agreed to mutually part ways. We thank him for his contribution to the Club and for the role he played in our promotion-winning campaign. Everyone at the Academy of Light wishes him well in the next chapter of his career.”

Yes, that's what is happening probably.

But they are in a unique position. They cannot be bullied financially, whatever PSR says, so the point I was driving at was that it is a test of the Saudis' commitment.

If it takes making the player okay a season in the stiffs, only they (and City) could handle such a tactic. After the way City refused to be bullied by Tevez, no player has tried it on with them.
