That’s all we can do mate, plucked that name out the air like just tried to think of a young striker with a high ceiling, more than happy mayenda getting his chance from the off thought
Some were trying to tell me yesterday that Mayenda, Isidor and Abdullahi is enough for a PL campaign.
Isidor and mayenda are 100% good options given the style we will need to play, rapid counters but we absolutely need another option who can make the ball stick especially if we’re holding onto a lead, who that is **** knows gave up trying to guess who we’d go for years ago
I can see a winger coming in as well, I think we will be aiming for 6 more signings Gk Cb x2 CM Winger CF Then if we sell any 1st teamers they'll need replaced If Neil goes id replace him with the Leicester lad, different players but the Leicester lad cover LM and AM for us. Then if we have Xhaka Le Fee Diarra Sadiki and Rigg who can all play the deeper roles Id love someone like Oscar Bobb or Harvey Elliot to come in, players who could play RM but could also cover AM - be handy for when the AFCON comes around
Do you reckon we could get Bobb? He’d be so good to have him, I’ve been thinking it was unlikely he’d leave.
On one hand I could see Isidor doing it because he can kill of half chances. The other side is that his decision making in all round play is terrible. Falling over, taking risks, instead of doing the right thing for the team, he’s bonkers.
I think he will leave, appartently he is available as will struggle for game time and will help City with PSR (not that they stick to the rules anyway) Bobb will be cheaper than Elliot imo, so he makes more sense even though I think Elliot is the better player. I'd like us to do a loan move with a view to signing if we stay up. This will allow us to use more money on the other positions this season and then we can use next seasons money on Bobb
His finishing is very good when he doesn’t have time to think, those are probably the chances he’ll get in the prem so I have faith he’ll be okay
Agreed mate, line ups have looked great the last 2 games then you look at the back 5 and the depth and it’s clear as day where we are lacking
Agree. We can rattle on as much as we like on here about GK,CB,CM and W,but the facts are that we are going to need goals to stay in this league and,as much as I love Wilson and Elizer,I don't see a 20 goal striker there. For me,it's the most important signing of the window.
The club want A CB or two A GK a winger that can play both sides A midfielder (Xhaka) Potentially a striker that’s what was said by Phil smith yesterday
I'm not a betting man, but after reading eth comments I'd put a tenner on him being sacked before Christmas
Last season’s 20+ strikers in PL: 1 Mohamed Salah. 29 2. Isak. 23 3. Haaland. 22 4=. Wood. 20 4=. Mbeumo. 20 Picking up a 20 goal striker is a bit unrealistic I think. If we can get 2 or 3 in the teens then I think we will have done very well. Unless Speakman pulls off an absolute blinder of course.
You've summed up the situation perfectly imo. I think the club are well aware of the scarcity of PL standard strikers we could go for. Even the top ten clubs don't have much in the way of cover. I'm sure we'd all like one, even two, but I think the club are leaning towards having a variety of attacking players but not a specific CF. Unless we manage a 'CF loan' we're not expecting I just can't see where one's coming from.
Great post. Like you at the start of the summer I wasnt keen on loads of new players. The club are doing it differently to my preference, and that is great, they know much more than me. I think they will be spending more based on activity to date. My preference right now is to focus on CB and CF. Assuming Xhaka lands. One of the real bright spots so far in pre season has been Seelt and Huggins. Seelt I thought the other night looked the part. I know judging players in pre season can be dangerous but he just moved like a quality CB. Him, Ballard, ONien and Alese make me think just one more will do. But I want whoever it is to be a real level up. Reimaldo can also play there in an emergency. Will leave the club to work out who but I wouldnt mind some English lads personally. I had thought we would need cover for Hume but happy now to trust in Huggins through to later in the window. Centre forward feels huge to me. Mayenda is so talented and he deserves to get his chance. I dont fancy Isidor though. I just think centre back will find him easy to play against and in a game where we are likely to need every second of possession he cant keep hold of the thing well enough. We really need someone that can help gel that forward play together. Back to goal they need to be elite. Little wall passes from the wide players to start moving defences around. Going to need to be a strong lad with great touch. Over to the club again. If they are reading Morata and Lauturo are canny at this job On top of that I would bring in a keeper to push Patto. The coach appointment I think is massive here. I dont mind a Sam Johnstone type personally. If we could really land Ramsdale I would be very happy too. I dont think that leaves us far away. One thing I am quite confident in is that Regis isnt about to become Ranieri. He wont suddenly rotate his first team in any significant way. I just dont see that in his coaching mentality. He is so focussed on connections and little triangles. Which I am all for. This means the idea of having lots of quality in depth to me is unrealistic. Footballers do not want to sit on the bench. It drives frustration and other poor mindsets. And as a coach you cant really keep good players and not play them. They career is short and they need to build achievements. I dont think we can expect too many in the squad as a result that have been used to playing week in week out and now expect them to be cover. Lads coming in like Tabli might accept it to start with. Seelt, Alese and Huggins will at the start too. But if you have played the games Patto, Cirkin, Rigg, Roberts etc have I would be surprised if all are happy starting the season on the bench. I look at footballers who are subs week in week out and think where is your motivation coming from. The game is everything, it is everything you work for. I could never have been a regular sub, even in lowly non-league. It would have driven my mad. Just think we may need to moderate our thinking a little about how much the club will want a deep squad, versus how much players want to be only a squad member.
I believe that we'll need to score at least 50 goals in order to stay safe of the drop zone......it would give us a real chance. We might have 4 or 5 players who could get 7 or 8 each, but it won't be enough.
