For me the measure of how good a player is is what opposition teams and fans think of them. Oxford fans I was talking to were raving about Jobe after the game at their place, and I thought he had a pretty poor game. Its easy to get blinded by seeing a player week in and week out, a good performance for a player we see all the time could be a brilliant performance to someone who doesn't see him that often. Same goes when we think a player performance level has dropped, it could still be a good performance to outside observers. Thats the reason why the likes of Dan Neil, Rigg, Jobe and Patterson are linked with moves away even if we believe they have had a dip in form (or as some fans put it, they are absolutely crap). In what is a pretty poor example...Milenkovic and Lacroix are averaging 7/10 this season, aged 25 and 27 respectively. Jobe is averaging 7.1 aged 19 years old. It's a worse league of course but for a 19 year old in a very young side that is brilliant. Personally I think £30m would be a bargain.
Milenkovic has any many goals and assists combined as Jobe playing at CB in a much much harder league lol. It was just an example of established players who’d improve us. I could’ve said Ekitike was £15m and is vastly better but I tried to think of realistic signings we could make if we were promoted. Fotmob ratings defo aren’t the be all and end all. Just adding I do think Jobe will be better than a £30m player in time but for where we currently are and his current ability I think it would daft to hold on when we could improve our team with that money imo.
I agree mate, totally different standard of league and ratings are definitely flawed...just trying to put across how I believe he may be worth more than he may appear. A player is worth as much as a club is willing to pay for them anyway...as I keep telling my dad who still rants about Jack Grealish being the biggest waste of money in the history of sport
‘Work horse’ is very unfair mate. You can see, even now at his age, he’s way more Rolls Royce luxury than Communist Bloc Lada (will never stop running, but it looks and performs like ****). Oxford fans, I think it was, who labelled him ‘cheat mode’ after their game at our place this season. When he’s his finished article he’s going to be some player - in my opinion (at our level anyway), already is. He’s our best centre mid by a country mile IMO
I dont get the argument Jobe is not yet a £25m player, or whatever. Why not? I really think he is. It is doubly odd, to me, when folk talk about Le Fee being great value at £20m. If I could have only one in my team next season I know which one it would be. I am not denigrating Le Fee here, but I dont know why anyone would value him the same as Jobe personally. Being a real so and so I could argue Le Fee has gone for £20m twice and not cut the mustard. I would bet my savings Jobe goes and does very well. He is just such a valuable player on the pitch. Wins his battles, runs all day, great off the ball, good on it, dominates space, dominates territory. He is such a bloody good player. £25m is very good business if you are the buying club. By the way, Le Fee is decent as well
I think regarding the sale of Jobe is that BVB are trying to get ahead of the game by hoping we will bite there hand off for that. Wait until after Saturday and when other big clubs come in, this could go higher and higher. I would love him to stay, espically if we acheive on Saturday.
Well. It’s been a joy to watch him flourish as much as he has. If this is his last game for us hopefully he etches his name into Sunderland history by sending us to the PL
It's harsh and he's clearly a level up from Rusyn but because of that experience I can't get excited about a striker from the Ukranian leagues.
I'm the same, I just try and think of Dovbyk though who got taken by Girona and went on to score 24 goals and move to Roma
