This is mental, we finished 4th, quite a way behind, and won via the playoffs. We were a decent side in the champ, the gap to the PL is ****ing huge, people need to wake up to that imo. Sentiment gets you nowhere. No one is saying sell everyone, we are simply saying upgrade and let the lads compete man
They all deserve a chance, those that want to stay. If they feel that they want pastures new, you let them go. Obviously for an inflated fee now that they are EPL players.:emoticon-0136-giggl

It's not just Roberts though...you can add 09, Cirkin, Patto, Neil, Isador to that list who many on here have labled not good enough for the Premiership.
How the **** we actually got promoted is completely beyond me.....some 'fan's on here need a reality check on how proper fans should support and not pull these lads who've given their all to get us into the top league to bits before we've kicked a ball next season.
I know I'm probably in the minority but hope these exciting new signings are really the big step up from what we already have....time will tell.
If someone says they don't think a certain player is good enough for the PL, or they don't believe a player is of PL quality, it doesn't mean they aren't a proper fan

Think we've all said we would love these boys to excel in the PL, some will but some won't - that's football.

We got promoted because we had a cracking championship team, that doesn't mean we will have a cracking PL team. The step up is huge and some won't be able to make the jump with us.

We only got to the PL by getting rid of players that got us to the championship, and the playoffs 1st year. Football is always evolving and the best clubs/team will evolve with it

I'm all for footballing opinions but saying fans aren't proper fans or need to know how to support the club better, if they come on to an online forum saying they don't belive a player is good enough for the PL is a bit of a joke

I don't think some of the players will be able to step up, I still class myself as a proper fan

Amen. I love the lads who got us promoted. Love them.

But I support Sunderland; not the players.

And within a few months we’ll hopefully love the new players just as much and people won’t want them replaced either.

Makes you wonder how much we have left to blow.

All in GBP Sadiki 17m, Enzo 20m, Taibi 20m, Petrovic 21.5m and Diarra 30m puts us on 108.5m spent.

Then you factor in the Watson 10m, Clarke 15m and Jobe 30m and we've only spent 53.5m with a fair whack still available.

Means we need a striker, winger and two centre halfs as a priority.

Yes. Most will get the chance
The main difference looks like it will be a much stronger bench, whoever actually starts.

This is so important in the PL. They all have very good squads, and good players fighting for places. Some of our starters from last season will be fighting harder, a very good thing.

One other point. This of course makes it harder still for young players to force their way in. But that's the challenge. The young lads will get the support they need and if they bang the door hard enough, they'll get still their chance.

Some good points made this morning. My feelings on the window so far are firstly I am really happy we are sticking with our model. So important to have an identity imo and we have one without letting promotion impact that. Secondly, absolutely delighted how early we are getting things done, didnt think we'd do it but we are giving ourselves a decent change to get new lads settled before the season starts. I also get the points on experience and UK experience, but quality will always be my priority (not discounting the importance of a couple of older heads).

Since we dropped out of the prem, my knowledge of players abroad is pretty non existent, so I have never seen any of these new lads play if I'm honest. Diarra at 21 was the captain of a French top tier side that qualified for Europe, so on the surface makes a load of sense. Reinaldo's CV alone means I dont need convincing on why we've done that deal.

With Sadiki and Talbi, if they are coming into strengthen the 11, I do have some concerns coming from the Belgium league and the massive step up they face at very young ages. But its a long term strategy that we've had success with and these lads have played in European competitions so I've got to have a bit of hope.

No matter what you think of our strategy, its pretty impossible to deny the club are giving everything for us to be successful, its really exciting man.
