He isnt severely limited mate. He is a professional footballer who has played at a high standard. You dont do that if you are severely limited.
Full international and played in the premier league a career 90% of pros would kill for, top bloke by all accounts too
He was fortunate enough to come through at a time in which we fell through the football pyramid, compare him to folk who did the same and moved on, Maja, honeyman etc Now hes being released by a poor stoke side. He is never a championship footballer, despite how much he gave for the badge. One of the data lads should pull numbers up, its terrifying.
I get what your saying but he’s loved here and the comments on the Stoke post are all positive towards him, fans don’t often praise **** players
Granted I think it is slightly uncalled for to take a dig at a really nice lad for no reason, personally my first thought when I saw it was hope he finds a decent club but everyone thinks differently.
Im an arsehole? This is a football discussion forum, wind your neck in, personal attacks on me, behave. Compare Gooch to Cirkin, miles off him. Never saw much from Gooch when he was here other than being a 100%'er, as said, but that ain't enough.
Data is only terrifying, or brilliant, if you only rely on data. Gooch as a footballer was an integral part of a team. Football is a team game. Data doesnt always reflect that. Wingers can out in great crosses but forwards are on their heels for example. Gooch brought far more then technical ability. He brought heart, and desire and a willingness to encourage and drive others. He was versatile and never ever shirked anything. None of this adds up to him being a limited footballer in any way shape or form. He was a very very good team player.
If I said 'I wish him all the best, but he's gonna struggle to find a championship side because he's ****e', would that have been better? Not sure why we have to be so soft, it's professional sport.
Like I say i'm not arsed what you say about him, just came across a bit of a weird first reaction to me and clearly a few others.
Goochy is a top lad and had the heart of a lion for us but personally I thought even in L1 he didn’t really stand out. As a player we had in the PL you would’ve thought he would take the piss at that level but he didn’t. He was really poor at times as a full back in the championship too but done a job helping us cement ourselves back at this level when we needed him. It was never his natural position either. As much as I thought he was ****e at the time he always gave his all and wore his heart on his sleeve, something we could use a bit of at the minute because there seems to be ****ing none of that.
