I'd be more than happy with Harrison. We may be looking at a number of less 'sexy' options all over the pitch, sometimes it's just about getting consistent performers in (like Targett) who don't have to cost the earth. The teams who have done a great job in the PL have done this - Brighton with people like Cucurella, Bissouma, West Ham with Soucek, Coufal, Fornals, Wolves with Neves, Coady, Jimenez, Hwang.

There's plenty out there if you get the scouting right. That's why I actually don't get hyper excited by links to people like Diaby or Ekitike. It's like the scouting team search google for "highest scoring teenager in 2022" then put a bid in.

Diaby just had an absolutely stellar season for Leverkusen, but it's about getting him for the £13m he cost back in 2019. That's where I'd rather Newcastle were spending time and money - I'm hopeful that with Ashworth we'll do this more and pick up excellent players for less who can be part of the group. Our best success always came from having the consistency - Lee for £700k, Andy Cole for £1.5m, Sellars, Venison, Bez, Beardo all cost under £1/2m each. Our best spells have come with well priced consistent performers, like Speed/Solano under SBR finishing 3rd, or Tiote/Cabaye/Ba finishing 5th under Pardew.

I'm not sure I'm getting your point here, as they were all huge amounts of money at the time. A £1m signing was rare in the top flight at that time, so when we spent £700k on Lee and £625k on Beresford, it was huge money in the second tier and unheard of. And when we bought Cole for £1.75m, that was major money even for a top flight team, and £1.5m for a 32 year old Beardsley was a huge shock to everyone (worth every penny in the end though, obviously).

Back then we were the country's big spenders, Blackburn reallwere only more minted at the time.

Spreading the spend on reliable performers rather than spending too big on individuals.

Beresford, Lee and Cole were all hot properties at the time who could have easily gone to first tier clubs, but they all bought into Keegans plan and vision.

Reliable yes, but they were all big and expense signings at the time.
