Is that a return to warrant all the rave reviews of him in your opinion?

Depends upon whether stats dictate your view of a footballer or not. They don’t for me. I try to consider the full picture and not just part of one and ultimately rely on what I actually see live.

True and live he’s a fantastic player to watch. But the reality is does he actually contribute to the end result.

I think he does and he’s now going to be in a team where he doesn’t get clattered as much because there will be good players around him.

From all accounts today against an average side he didn’t do much. I can’t personally confirm as I didn’t see it.

Stats, for me for example, don’t show how many opposition players marked him as there was nobody else in our team for them to worry about. Willock went on a goal scoring run part of which in the beginning was the opposition not expecting to have to mark anyone but Max.

Max could be an excellent player. He’s been badly coached for most of his time here but it’s now up to him to learn in a proper professional coaching set up which now seems to exist. The next 12-18 months will show if he is capable of improving and becoming the player his talent suggests he can be….or not.

He’s got to want it too. In the past regime he was a rough diamond but could do what he wanted so looked like a top player amongst bad ones.

Your right, now he has an opportunity to do brilliant stuff but within the right coaching and management expectations.

I said in an earlier post that I think this season is huge for him. And I think he may be out top scorer.

It’s a massive season for him and us because as a club we will move on regardless.

I have a very good feeling about this season.

It’s the “how much do you want it” which separates the “promising” from the “failed” from the “goods” from the “greats”.

Not Fat Ronaldo is a perfect example of this as is Keegan. It’s all very fine lines but neither of those had the natural talents of the likes of Rodney Marsh or Alan Hudson or similar such players but they both wanted it more and did what was necessary and ultimately achieved more.

Your absolutely right. The name Ben Arfa springs to mind. He was immensely talented but just didn’t have the application.

The most frustrating player I think I ever watched because raw talent he was one of the best I have ever seen.

But he never ever lived up to it.

Ben Arfa with us was right club wrong manager. If he'd been here under Keegan he'd have torn it up (even more than he did)

Probably classed as an account manager, but really I would say it's sales.

I mean I have to make it work 1st, but that's the she with anything I guess... No point thinking negative just do it.

I tried driving lorries.. Not for me <laugh>
