If Everton even considered an offer for him it would show they are a basket case of a club!

Simms looks 100% to be good enough for a shot at being in and around a lower half Premier league first team after another season of football! Everton though might be Championship themselves so he could be their first choice next season.

To consider a offer would show they ha e no plan for the immediate future and are one of those clubs that prefers to buy a player than try what they have in the kids!

Mhm, which is why I couldn’t understand us loaning him IF the reported £500k fee for a permanent transfer was true. He looks like a player easily worth 10x that at the minute.

I just hope with Simms, and a few of the other young lads that people are waxing lyrical about, that we remember how positive we are about him and stay supportive when he inevitably, as a young lad, goes through a bad run of form at some point in the season.
Agree marra, you should of seen the stinking Sheff U match thread with the way some went on about Neil and Patterson. Even the battler O9 was being hailed a taxi for Wycombe. Surreal.

If we are building like last season then all the players we bring in should have the potential to play premiership football. It’s not about getting out of the division, it’s building a squad that can survive in the league above. Likes of Gayle who are/were excellent in championship but didn’t cut it in Prem shouldn’t be on our radar. Ballard fits the profile, Cirkin and Clarke too, Simms and Van Hecke have the potential if they weren’t loans. The loans with same profile means everyone is hungry and trying to improve. I love the way we are going about our business.
Cracking post

Agree 100%. Some people are far too quick to lambast our players when we lose a game.

We've lost 1 league game this season to the league leaders, when we were down to 10 men for an hour. Our start has been magnificent. Massive well done to AN, his coaching staff and the players for their technical ability and never say die attitude. No one should be questioning the players. A lot of them are performing to the best of their ability and in some cases there's more to come as they gain more experience.

It's vital that AN is backed by the club and 4-5 reinforcements arrive, as we can't expect ever single player to be on song for 46 games.

This is a great time to be a Sunderland fan and I for one am enjoying the ride. We've made a great start, let's build on it!

I don't think it was true, I don't think a permanent deal was ever an option. Of course I know nothing really, I just assume they are loaning him out to see how he does and either raise his price or bring him into the squad next season.

Don’t quote me on this but I’m sure they were playing with a back 4 until Van Hecke came into the team and they got walloped 7-0 off Fulham in his first game or definitely one of his first games. Once he was back from suspension they played with a 5 at the back and went on a good run mid season then went back to a 4 at the back and had a poor end to the season. I’m busy at the minute, I’ll have a look later to verify but I’m 99% sure I’m right.

I personally don’t like us playing with 3 centre backs in a 5 (although I am coming round to it more every game) because Cirkin is a quality left back and he’s having to fill in at LCB whilst Clarke drops back to LWB. Neil/Embleton end up in the middle, O’nein is covering RCB. Feels like too many players are out of position to accommodate the second striker, but it’s hard to drop Simms when he’s playing so well. We seen at QPR when he took him off the game totally changed, he left him on yesterday and we could’ve scored 2/3 more second half.

I think when we have a full squad fit both formations are viable though and that’s a great thing to be able to switch.
I had a look at the Blackburn forums yesterday and it was what they were using to console themselves on him not returning there, that he can’t play in a back 4.

Genuinely think we should go to Everton now and just pay for Simms. He’s gonna cost a few quid but it’s gonna rise.

I’ve seen enough to say he could have a big future here if it’s plausible let’s see the owners teeth.

I'd love to see him here permanently, but it's easy to say when we don't hold the purse strings or see the opportunity cost.

Would you still want us to do it if it means it takes us over over budgets for the season, meaning we can't afford anyone else?

I think Simms will make it as well, but it is worth pointing out that in the last couple of years our fans would have had us sign Jordan Jones and Hoffman after a couple of good games at the start of their loans too.

Think that was just a made rumour, not a chance they would sell him for 500k when he has had successful loans before us

Surely no smoke without fire though? Theres dozens of reports of £500k if you have a quick search. Even if it was double that, £1m is still not really a big risk to take on someone who smashed records at youth level then looked promising on both loans. Guess we’ll never know!

I'm sure Everton will want him back. They've handled his development close to perfectly. I just hope there's no recall in January.

They sent him to league one first of all. His next move was a step up to the SPL and now he's stepped up again to the Championship. Good season now will set him up well for a crack at the Premiership. I'd imagine that's the way Everton are seeing it.

There is loads of smoke without fire mind when it comes to reporting of football transfers.
