Great points re Dan Neil. I noticed in pre Season he was creating overloads out wide. When we have played a back 5 he has often been the overload through the middle, getting ahead of Pritchard. It is definitely an instruction from the gaffer. When we play 3 centre backs Evans should never be overrun, unless 1 isnt stepping out when we have the ball. I know people think Dan Neil should be more of a terrier / defensive minded player because he lines up alongside Evans, but that really isnt his game, nor is it his instruction in my opinion. I would bet the team formation Alex Neil uses with his players bears no resemblance to what is put up on a sky graphis. Formations are never in straight lines really - stewart and simms dont play in a line, they will be fluid. Same as Dan I reckon, licence to roam whereas Evans will be more restricted. He is the deep lying playmaker, to knit defence and attack together, and get forward in support. Personally I think he is very good already, but also has the most room to improve as well and he could well be outstanding. I just hope we have the patience to let him keep learning this new level, and his own game, because we will be paid back in bucket loads in my opinion.
