I'll leave it until the transfer window shuts. I'm assuming we are going to bring in 2-3, at least. With this squad as it stands, I'd have us finishing 12th - 15th. At some point we'll have injuries and suspensions and we aren't well equipped to deal with that.

Performance is key. I'm okay with bad results if you can see his style of play being stamped down. Better players over a few windows will improve that.

If we get the 2 or 3 you mention....a combative central midfielder, another striker and a full back..?....I think we'll have enough for a little bit higher than 12th. I've been very impressed with AN so far and I hope he gets the time he needs to deliver with a properly constructed squad.

It seems KLD was deadly serious when he talked about the club paying for itself. I don't even think he'd spend much if we were to go up.

We need to spend a little more this window because our squad lacks the depth in quality that a lot of teams already have in this league.
The concern is that IF we did go up, I too don't think we could compete on transfers unless there was a complete 180 turn in thinking. That is a real worry.

When you get to the PL you get a guaranteed £100m in prize and TV money. Using that income to buy players and pay wages would be a perfect example of the "club paying for itself"

exactly this. and this is exactly the point in being sustainable.

too many clubs are spending money they dont have in the hope they can then pay for it with the premier league payments when they get there. its why so many fall into problems not getting there, and its also why so many who do get there then cant spend properly, because they've already spent that money and are then just relying on future parachute payments.

Not spending money unnecessarily is exactly what allows us to buy players like Ballard and this Costa Rican kid. Most other clubs wouldn't pay a million on a risk like that, because they're spending that money on players that are just about good enough.

Let them have it, I'm just looking at this season and next as us building for a crack at going up. We'll be in the same position as these Watford's and Stokes in a couple year.

We’d be in no worse of a position than Stoke if we get a few decent loans in IMO. That’ll be the difference in what kind of season we have. As you’ve mentioned there them getting Fosu and Delap has the potential to totally change their season.

Central midfielder is priority, for me. I see Evans as our number one but I don't think he'll last a full season playing every game. This goes against popular opinion but Dan Neil hasn't shown enough to suggest he can handle playing every game in this league. Its early days but he needs to start shining. The league is too competitive to be carrying players. I really like Matete but he's another one who probably isn't ready to start every game.

Agree with the last bit. Give the gaffer time, everything so far has been very encouraging in the main.

Yep. I'm trying not to overthink that but definitely something that's in the back of my mind. Neil didn't get money at Norwich and they were ****e under him in the premier. You have to spend and bring in quality, it's the only way for teams being promoted.

100 million isn't a great deal when you take wages into consideration. Sounds mental that but it's true in the grand scheme of things.

Good post mate. Evans has undergone a lazarus like change since AN came in. I don't see Dan Neil as an undercover for him.....he drifts wide to the right when we have the ball...obviously tactical. I see him as a forward, creative player....not as an alternative for Corey. If he gets the freedom,he can shine,he's an excellent prospect.....although I do take the point about the number of games.
I too like Matete...I do think he can be that player, but he's not there yet,and needs some time. I've seen some posts on here suggesting he goes out on loan...I hope not....I think he can be capable,I'd like to see him stay with us.

I've just checked their squad to remind me who they've got and there's a lot of experience there of playing in this league. I think that counts for a lot. They've a guy called Lewis Baker, watch out for him mate, he's deadly on set pieces. He was playing for Vitesse Arnhem when I used to go over and watch them, so I've seen a fair bit of him.

Not sure why it should go against popular opinion. I do think Neil is going to be a very good player. He shows a lot of his abilities up to now. But there is no way he can play 46 games. I’m hoping the cooler weather works better for our side and their fitness. Time will tell. I do agree though. We need CM as a priority

You do realise the owners can only put so much money in or they'll fall fowl of ffp

My memory isn't my best attribute, so dot take this as gospel but wasn't KLD once supposed to have said if we get promoted our budget is £60m
