We're signing "rough diamonds" if their character is right.

I would question the idea that Morrison is a rough diamond at all though. The mythology around him seems to come from an anecdote that Fergie thought he was the most talented players he'd sign at a young age. But the comment came from Rio Ferdinand, not Fergie directly and Fergie thought he was so talented, that he never played a league match for Man Utd and was gone by the time he was 19. Since then he's had 12 clubs and I'm not aware that he's massively impressed at any of them.
I think Fergie said it in one of his autobiographies didn't he? My West Ham supporting wife and in laws say Morrison was excellent when he was there. Apparently, he didn't always turn for training though.

He played 18 league games in 4 years for them. He could have been Messi for 10 of them games and it doesn't make him "excellent for them" in my opinion. I'd be really disappointed if this is anything more than a rumour.

The number of games he played was probably limited due to the fact that, like I said, he didn't bother turning up for training. None of that means that he wasn't necessarily 'excellent' when he played.
The point I was making was that he's a very good player with a very big question mark over him about his attitude and character.
