Two young lads I'd definitely be in for, centre backs to go with the experience of Batth and Wright, Ronnie Edwards from Peterborough and Harry Darling from MK Dons. Both massive talents, and could go to the very top.
Harry Darling would be a great signing. A very accomplished defender who is good on the ball. Dont know the other lad.

He isn't getting his thread for this but it's to do with contracts etc

But Mbappes news contract and in the times we live in is absolutely disgusting. Grotesque amounts of money, 85 million signing bonus and a contract worth over half a billion, that's 1.6 million pounds a week...a f**kin week?!.He has a say in transfers and who the new manager is or will be sacked. A footballer now officially has the power over a club. PSG can't sustain the cash flow. 700 million loss last year. Just when you thought football couldn't be any further away from the average fan.

Agreed mate, it's disgusting but until real governance is brought in there's nothing stopping it happening. PSG in no way can afford this, the losses are unsustainable and to give him this power in the club effectively means he holds the future of the club in his hand and he could wreck the club on a whim, just by meddling in transfers, let alone if he decided to pick up his salary for doing nothing. Yet the Qataris can get away with it because Fifa and UEFA are allowing them to

We need their oil, and the Saudi oil, simple as that, sadly.

23 year old with all that power, what they will say is, he is irreplaceable so it would cost that and more to try to full his boots with 5 or 6 failed attempts. I remember when Rio went to Man U for 24 million and no one could believe it. Then Zidane for 46 million. Times have well and truly changed mate.

I remember Roy Keane getting 50k a week and it being a huge wage. Average Premier league player warming the bench these days!

Does 'retained' as applied to an out-of-contract player mean that the retained player has been offered a new contract with the same or better terms than the old one?

The list is usually made up of retained players (ie players under contract already ), players offered new contracts , players released

Considering the retained list needs to be announced by Wednesday, I’d expect any out of contract player who we want to keep and wants to stay will be announced as staying in next 48 hours with a new contract.

If I remember last year from the retained list we knew the players that were 100% gone as they weren't being offered new deals, ones we were offering new deals to (O'Nien, even Wyke was named last year).

I think there just needs to be an offer and talks ongoing. I am convinced Wyke was offered a payout last year, as he was going to be backup. At best it was same money.

Quick edit: which I agreed with at the time it was obvious where the future was with our strikers!

seem to remember wyke was offered a new, improved deal but wigan threw 10k per week at him, which for this league is not to be sniffed at.

indeed. And in a way you only have to look at what’s happened to the lad since to realise he made the right choice. It’s a short career. If a club is stupid enough to pay you more than you’re worth, unless there are major fundamental footballing reasons not to, it’s hard to say a player shouldn’t

I didn't remember it being improved. I think the club knew he was going but offered a deal anyway as he had a good season, I think if he repeated his other seasons here he wouldn't have even got that!

He would have been good backup for Stewart but that's it Stewart was going tk be leading the line and Wyke would not have accepted that even if watched Wigan. To be honest I always got the impression he didn't really enjoy his time here even the last season when he was scoring for fun!

you are not alone, think most got the impression he was never happy...to be honest, i don't think anyone was upset that he went which surprised other supporters because of how many he scored for us that season, was a strange one that.

I remember saying at the time it's odd that the general consensus is oh well, when usually you would be gutted losing a striker who scored so many that season. I remember Wigan fans thinking that we were being bitter that he left and that we were pretending we weren't bothered and I thought to myself that's what we would think the other way around given the season he had.

I think seeing Stewart helped! He has been a revelation for me from the start, he ****ing loves being I the pitch. You never really see his head go down and his work rate is unreal! I love to see him sprinting after defenders and keepers as they **** themselves!<laugh>

I’d like Roberts announced.

Took him a few weeks but my good he’s a quality player. Can see him being massive even a level up, the way he dances around players even at low speed is magic.

He seems to enjoy the place as well.
If he fancies it and keeps the same attitude and work rate then totally. If he doesn't fancy it then we shouldn't beg or compromise the budget too much. Super talented but rhe value of team work and attitude on top has been so evident the last few months. Hope he's up for it and stays, class player. Not many in the squad I would lose to be honest, which is weird, but as others have said given the chance to play football think this is a canny team. So exciting and full of hope, OAU
