Heard a few people saying £3.5 million is a bit steep but bear in mind, it’s not £3.5 million on a player we know nothing about, a player who doesn’t know anything about our club. There’s always a risk that any new signing won’t meet expectations or even fit in. This lad has had been with us last season, knows everything about us. The risk factor of him not fitting in is non existent. He knows everything about us and by all accounts loved his time here. He may see his opportunities in the future at Tottenham limited so we are perfect as he knows, since promotion, he’s going to be playing at a higher level and if he realises his obvious potential and stands out next season we will probably lose him but reap the rewards of a healthy profit in the future. He would be a perfect signing

Id say he'll go for more than £3.5m . That would be very good value, and few get good value out of Spurs.

Yep, I also don’t think it’ll be £3.5m up front. It’ll likely be paid in clauses/instalments. Initial payment will probs be around £1m imo.

Rooney could have a good career as manager. He comes across well when he talks about football and its clear he has a great deal of intelligence and passion for it. If the rumours are true of him putting his money in to pay his players shows a little bit about his character as a manager who would look after his players, which will bode well for him.
As far as I understand from a derby fan he offered but it didn’t happen

Be nice to have a couple in but I can see us getting a fair few late on in the window. At least we have a nucleus of a decent side already here. Just need those 2 or 3 top quality to push us top half

It's all a bit like the Jack Clarke situation.

Spurs need to be sure they have every position adequately covered before they make a decision on him.

As they'll be competing in multiple competitions they'll need a good squad.

Our needs come a long way down their list of priorities unfortunately.

This is why, in my opinion, we're not being too hasty in allowing the likes of Diamond to leave or go out on loan.

When there are 92 clubs, all trying to prepare for the new season, it's bound to be complicated and frustrating.

I just feel, for the first time in ages, that we have an advantage.

Clarke is way down the pecking order at Tottenham and I'm hoping we can get this deal sorted before we head out to Portugal. I've got complete faith in our recruitment having witnessed the last 3 windows. Onwards and upwards

On SSN this morning that Borini has been offered to Sunderland and he’s willing to take a pay cut to come back. Avail for less than £1m. Maybe not such nonsense after all.. Dependant on wages, I’d take him because of how many positions he can cover. I think we’d be daft not to take up the offer of bringing him in when we currently only have 1 striker and no cover for Clarke providing we get him.

I know a few people have mentioned Defoe coming back being a nightmare which is a fair point, but Borini has been playing regular football at a much higher level than Defoe sitting on the bench in the SPL - and isn’t nearly 40.

It’s an interesting one. He could certainly do a job in the Championship and would bring massive experience to a really young squad.

My only concern would be his attitude and effect on the younger players.

He obviously has quality but doesn't always show it ...

... but if anyone can whip him into shape I'd guess Neil is a good shout.

Not for me I am afraid. I am not sure what he would have to offer us. He isnt past it like Defoe was, but I dont see him fitting in this squad we are building. He couldnt play the role Stewart plays, nor the one Broadhead did. He may play from the left but that is a high energy, high pace role under Neil. I cant really see us taking him, even on a free, and I reckon Speakman will be wary after his Defoe experience.

Think you've covered off most of what I feel, however being a soppy tart I'd have added never go back to an x

He plays on the left but can also play wing back which would help if Cirkin is injured as we’ve nobody to cover him as of yet either with Huggins never fit and probably the first choice right back when he is fit. Managed 9 goals in 19 starts season before last from the wing so defo still has an eye for it. I’d prefer to have a smaller striker on the bench to throw on and go more direct with a runner off Stewart if we’re struggling to get into a game second half tbh but whether or not that’s Borini is another question. Agree with him not really fitting the profile but we have a very young squad and some experience wouldn’t go amiss IMO.

Yep, agreed mate.

I was an advocate of bringing Defoe back, which simply didn't work out. However, the Borini story is interesting. Regardless of the bad feeling he left in our mouths when he left the club, he still has a lot to offer to our young squad.

It's a yes from me....

Hmm I am sitting on the fence on this one!

Never a prolific scorer, more of a winger..
If I am honest, rather have Clarke.
