I don't have this downer on Burge that some do.

He had a dozen different defences/systems to cope with last season ...

... a settled back line and you'd barely notice him.

I think that part of the problem with Burge isn't Burge himself, more that we had Mclaughlin before him, who in his first season in particular was so much more assured, and gave confidence.

Had we not had Mclaughlin and gone from Camp to Burge, he wouldn't get half the stick that he does.

Im still waiting for Whitby town to make an offer we cant refuse for Flannagan aswell
2 portions of Fish, chips, Mushy peas and scraps would seal the deal for me. Apparently their Chairman is trying to leave the Peas out of the offer

In Jon McLaughlin we had a championship level goalkeeper in a league one side.

Burge is a league one goalkeeper.

Could he be improved upon? 100%. But he’s nowhere near as bad as many make out.

Depends on your tolerance for nervy, indecisive keepers I suppose. To some it's an issue, others think as long as the save % is good that's all that matters.

I don't expect us to sign a keeper above where we are quality wise, although it should be possible, but it depends on how much stock you put in your keepers character. To some people it's a key factor for that position.

Burge is the worst keeper I’ve seen at Sunderland in my lifetime. Camp was bad, but he was doing it at championship level. He’s also been solid for Swindon since coming down to league one as well.

He’s poor but Ha’way man… <laugh><laugh><laugh><laugh><laugh>

He was doing what at Championship level? Not ****ing goalkeeping.

I think we have to give Burge a bit of slack. His biggest fault is that he doesn't come to claim the ball and try to dominate his box, but,he made a number of excellent shot stopper saves last year which kept us in it at times. I think he would be a lot better if and when he plays behind a settled, competent defensive line, which, last season we were hardly ever able to put out.

Sadly those who think we should have a Premier League keeper will fail to see this.

Agree. Nor was McLaughlin as good as people like to romanticise about - he made several mistakes at the start of his 2nd season with us

Aye at least he's a decent shot stopper, made some great saves last season and some important ones too. It was like Camp was made of smoke when he was with us, the ball seemed to mysteriously pass through him no matter how crap the shot. Steele and Ruiter had the same problem.
I can't ever remember Camp actually diving, I'm not Burges biggest fan , but like has been mentioned before unless we can get a Premier League player on loan like the young lad from Stoke, signing any league 1 keeper on a permanent is not really going to be an improvement.
No matter what anyone thinks about Burge, before the collapse of our defence in the last 12 games he was actually statistically one of the best in the league
