Firstly, I'm pretty sure if Spurs wanted to keep Cirkin he'd still be a Spurs player
. Doyle looks decent but it was one game, how many players have the odd good game here or there and then fade into oblivion? Literally thousands.£1m is a lot of money in this league, it's feck all to a Prem team. In recent years, we've spunked more than that on the likes of Charis Mavrias, Donald Love, Moberg-Karlsson, Mika, etc... Does that automatically make them superstars at League One level?
As for "he must be good coz West Ham fans rate him"... Remember the likes of Ryan Noble who was destined to be a future England star according to some on here when he was tearing it up in the U23s? There's been loads of youth players like that over the years, fans tend to hype their own younguns up because they want to believe their team has found the next big thing, but the reality is most of them don't really know what they're talking about. Hell, there were a fair few on here just last season saying Denver Hume would be playing in the Prem within a couple years
.The idea that Alves is automatically one of the best defenders in the league just because a few West Ham fans like him is really quite funny.

You’re going to get pelters for this but I’d tend to agree. I love the new direction the club is taking, I have faith in this regime and I’m hugely optimistic for this season and even more for the future beyond that but to declare that we have the best defence in the league at this stage is farcical and I think people are going way over the top. The three lads have one senior performance in this country between them.
Ordinarily I’d love the positivity and optimism but unfortunately I know that a lot of the same posters getting carried away now are going to be the worst if things don’t quite go to plan, the more they build them up the further it is to fall and the bigger the backlash. We saw it at the end of last season. I think people may need to manage their expectations a little.

You keep away from any sharp objects, also remove any medication and items that could be used for ligatures, just relax and think happy thoughts
This is all getting a bit to much, ive heard were signing nobody, dont have any coin, were waiting until we develop those entering the U8s, expect 10 years & we will be ready to go.
NOW folk are getting excited over signing a few young lads no one has heard of, we should be signing more old plodders like grigg etc who have a prover record of getting out of tgis division!!!!
Cant see how this will possibly work.....lets remember no one ever won anything with kids

Now that's a fair and balanced response which can be debated, much better than the abuse you see on other boards. It's a major reason that I prefer this board.

You may believe that but I don't agree that it's level headed.
Rather than answer your points tit for tat I'll pose a question. You seem to be basing your POV on the fact that people may never have seen these signings 'play a single minute of football'. That's fair enough but, of all the other L1 defenders, how many minutes have you seen them play, how many do you actually remember and how many do you believe will ever play in the PL?
Doyle will for certain, Alves is odds on and Spurs feel so sure Cirkin will move on to a higher level that they seem to want a buyback/sell on scenario. Mourinho is a decent judge of a defender and he singled him out for high praise after seeing him play.
So I don't believe, from a level headed POV, that the comment by @Teessidemackem is gullible and biased as you claim.
So if this defence isn't the best in L1 which, in your unbiased opinion, is.
